How to bathe a child: herbs or store products
After being discharged from the maternity hospital, young parents face a lot of concerns about caring for a child. Questions about bathing crumbs are among them. How to do this correctly, what temperature the water should be, whether it is necessary to boil it, how to bathe - we will talk about all this in detail.
How to bathe a child
You can bathe a healthy baby immediately after the umbilical wound heals. Until that moment, wipe the baby with cotton swabs dipped in warm water with the addition of baby soap. Then, wash off the soap with another damp swab and pat the baby's body with a towel. Pay special attention to the folds on the body of the crumbs.
Many parents believe that water for bathing newborns should be boiled, but practice shows that this is not at all necessary. It is enough just to fill the bathing tub with water at a comfortable temperature for the child.
For bathing it is better to choose a room with a temperature of about 24 degrees, where no drafts will blow on the child. Bathing water should be at body temperature, that is, approximately 36 degrees. Use special baby baths on a stable support for the procedure. Set it up so that you do not have to bend low over it, otherwise your back will quickly get tired. It is best to bathe your baby in the evening, a few minutes before feeding. Then a clean and well-fed child will sleep peacefully.
Baby bathing products
Now in stores and pharmacies you can find a very wide selection of products for bathing children. But not all of them are of good quality and are suitable for water procedures for a newborn child.
How do you choose the perfect one?
- Use only products that are specially formulated for newborns. As a rule, they are marked 0+.
- Do not use antibacterial soaps for adults. Such soap may well cleanse the skin of an adult, but in a child it can cause allergies.
- Buy baby care products only from specialized stores or pharmacies.
- Choose only products that are pH neutral, do not include dyes, fragrances or preservatives. They must be hypoallergenic. Look for a pediatrician recommended label on the package.
- Pay attention to the packaging. It should be comfortable for you to hold and open it. It is best to choose products in dispenser bottles.
Bathing agent is best added directly to the water, whipping it into a lather. Only then can you lower the baby into the bath. If the bathing foam is already dissolved in the water, then there is no need to additionally soap the skin of the crumbs with bathing gel. Finish bathing by rinsing your baby thoroughly with clean water.
Bathing herbs
For preventive purposes and for the treatment of skin rashes in children, decoctions of herbs can be used for bathing. So, from prickly heat oregano, thyme, oak bark or string help well. And the buds of birch and aspen will help against diaper rash. In order to cope with skin irritation, use a chamomile decoction. It is useful to add a decoction of lavender or valerian to the bath before going to bed.
Choose one grass for bathing. Brew a tablespoon in a liter of boiling water and let it brew for about half an hour. Then strain the infusion and pour it into a tub of bathing water. Check your baby for allergies before the procedure. To do this, soak a cotton swab in the herb infusion and run it over the baby's skin. If after a short time there is no reaction, then you can safely use this herb for bathing your baby.
Do not overuse herbal baths. It is quite enough to do such baths 2 times a week. Do not use soap or rinse your child after the herbal bath to avoid diminishing the healing effect.
