How to get rid of midges

Everyone has seen these small insects. They appear very quickly over exposed fruits in summer when it is hot. It's about midges. These annoying creatures are able to penetrate any gap, it would be something to profit from.

Where does the midge come from

The life span of these pests does not exceed a day. But during this short time they manage to lay off a huge number of larvae. Therefore, it sometimes seems to us that it is simply impossible to exterminate the midges.

There are more than 2000 species of mosquitoes on our planet, but most often we meet with fruit flies, or, as it is also called, fruit midges. They are ten times smaller than regular flies. As the name suggests, these creatures live on spoiled fruit and vegetables. They also love to settle in flowers, even if they are completely fresh or even grow in a pot. They can settle both in the bathroom and in a container with some kind of chemical.

How to get rid of indoor midges

Trying to interrupt the midges with your hands or with improvised firecrackers is a useless exercise. Quite different measures are needed here. First, check the entire apartment and look for anything that might attract these insects. Any spoiled food, stale cereals, stagnant liquid can become a breeding ground for midges. Therefore, all this must be thrown away immediately.

After you get rid of objects that attract midges, there will be fewer of them immediately. Now your task is to catch the remaining fruit flies. This can be done in this way:

1. Take a plastic cup and pour a sweet syrup into it, preferably with a fruity flavor.
2. Close the cup with a piece of plastic and secure it tightly with an elastic band.
3. Make small holes on top with a regular needle.
4. Wait for the insects to crawl into the glass, attracted by the scent of the fruit, and then just get rid of this trap.

Another way to catch gnats is camphor smoke. Heat camphor in a regular skillet until smoke appears. Then remove the pan from the heat and walk around the apartment with it. Camphor smoke will not harm a person, but midges cannot stand it.

How to get rid of flower gnats

After you got rid of from all midges in the apartment, you need to free the room from them plants... The fact is that in addition to adults, there are also larvae that perfectly live up to their hour in the flower soil... There are several very effective methods of getting rid of indoor flowers from annoying midges.

For starters, do not water the plant for several days and allow the soil to dry on top for at least a couple of centimeters. Then prepare the garlic infusion. Grate the head of garlic and pour 600 ml of boiling water over it. Leave the product to infuse for 4 hours. After that, spray the plant itself and water the ground with infusion. Bury the pulp that remains from the garlic in a pot. Additionally, you can stick a head of garlic cut into several parts into the ground.

If you don't want to mess with garlic or are afraid of an unpleasant smell from it, then you can do it easier. Take regular matches and stick their heads into the ground. Water the plant lightly with warm water. Matches need to be changed periodically. After about a week, the remaining midges will die.

How to get rid of midges in winter

If midges attacked your home during the winter. Then, most likely, something of the vegetables stored for the winter has deteriorated. Perhaps some potato has rotted and midges have started on it. Or a piece of fruit rolled somewhere and went bad. First, find the source of the midges and discard it. Then use the Sweet Syrup Trap to trap the survivors. Instead of syrup, you can put spoiled fruit in the trap.
