Master class: DIY dress
Today we will sew a wonderful dress with a lace belt, which will be appropriate both at work and on a walk. Unlike skirts and tops, the dress takes a little longer to sew and requires more skill and patience. But the style I designed can be classified as quite simple. So let's get started.
Dress pattern
First you need to build a pattern for the basis of the dress, how to do this look here... And then the fun begins - modeling. Take the basic pattern and step back from the armholes of both halves, along the side seam, 12 cm. Draw a horizontal line. This is the area of dividing the top and bottom of the dress. That is, further modeling will go through each detail separately. Cut the pattern along the marked line.
The construction of the top to the dress goes in the same way as we cut this blouse with a one-piece sleeve... Only unlike the blouse, there is no mesh insert and the back is completely closed. Just follow all the steps given in the article. The top should have 3 details: 1 in front, 2 halves of the back. Since our dress has a lock on the back.
Now let's move on to building the bottom. Transfer the darts to the center of the pattern. Cut the pattern along the green line all the way to the base. As a result, you will have 4 parts of the drawing: 2 back halves and 2 front halves.
I will mention that I did not make an increase in the freedom of fitting in order to get a tight-fitting silhouette.
The pattern is ready, we start sewing.
Sew a dress with your own hands
To sew a dress, you will need the following (the amount of material is indicated for size 46):
- gabardine - 60 cm (top);
- dense stretch fabric, for example, suit stretch - 70 cm (to the bottom);
- secret lock 50 cm;
- lace 1 meter;
- threads to match fabrics.
Transfer the pattern to the fabric and cut out all the elements. You should get: 3 top details
7 bottom details.
In order not to get confused in so many elements, make small notes on the fabric of what and where.
Let's start by sewing a skirt. Chip off all the front and back parts. You will end up with 1 front and 2 backs. Sew all the pieces on the sewing machine.
Treat the seams so they don't crumble. Then turn the machined allowances to the center of the fabric and sew a parallel stitch.
As a result, you will get such a beautiful seam.
Now, folding the front and back parts with the right sides inward, grind the side seams. Having processed the latter, in the same way: unfold (towards the back) and stitch. There will be a large canvas in front of you.
On the front side, stepping back from the top of the skirt literally 1 cm (seam allowance), lace up the lace. Here it is important not to spare the needles, since the unevenly sewn lace will have to be ripped off, and this will negatively affect the appearance of both the decoration itself and the fabric.
Gently, slowly, constantly pulling the fabric with your hands, start sewing on the lace on the sewing machine.
After the jewelry takes its place, put the skirt aside and start sewing the top of the dress. Process all the details so that they do not crumble, and sew. Leaving the back seam open.
Prepare neck trim pieces.
Pin the piping together, sew and process the outside of the piping.
Thread the piping to the neckline of the top of the dress (face to face). Sew on. Then turn the facing inside the product.
It's time to connect the top and bottom. To do this, lay out the skirt on a spacious surface, face up, and on top put the "jacket", "face down". Make sure the bottom of the top fits perfectly with the top of the bottom. In my case, I deliberately made the top a bit wider in order to get a smoother look. If this is not what you aspired to, but it turned out - as in the photo, just gather the top. Thread the two parts together, then stitch on the typewriter. You need to sew at a distance of 1 cm from the edge, just in the place that remained at the time of sewing the lace.
Make money and sew on the lock. Close the back seam.
It remains to process the bottom of the dress. To do this, bend the bottom of the skirt, first by 0.5 cm, and then by 2-3 cm and pin with needles. Then sew a straight line on the typewriter.
The dress is ready, and this is what we got.
