How to dye artificial hair
Modern artificial strands and wigs are made not only from “doll” hair, but also from natural hair. They, as a rule, cost several times more, but their service life is much longer. If the wig is made from natural hair, you can easily not only paint it any color, but also to do absolutely any hairstyle using a hair straightener or curling iron, then for artificial hair this can be the last procedure.
Regular hair dye will most likely ruin an artificial wig made from Kanekalon and similar materials. It will simply “burn” and curl up under the influence of chemicals.
- You can dye not the entire wig, but one or two strands, for example, near the face. An ordinary marker is quite suitable for this, preferably a permanent one, although an ordinary one most often remains forever. Just take thin strands and paint them evenly.

- Fabric paint - batik - will also help color your “spare” hair. Dilute it with water at the rate of 1 liter of water per 1 jar of paint and leave the wig in this mixture for 2-3 days. After this, the wig should dry in its usual state for at least a day. Often after this procedure, artificial hair becomes stiff, so comb it very carefully.

In general, a wig, and especially an artificial one, requires very careful treatment, so when coloring or somehow changing it, you act at your own peril and risk - the final result is very difficult to predict.
How to dye a synthetic hair wig: step-by-step instructions
So, if you decide to undergo this procedure, then prepare yourself for long, hard work and an unexpected result. In principle, for this coloring you can use absolutely any alcohol-based dye; above we have already offered you options with fabric paint and marker. You can also successfully use printer ink or alcohol ink.
- Wear protective gloves.
- Protect clothes and furniture from paint getting on them.
- Using scissors, remove the alcohol-based marker refill.
- Cut the tip of the rod so that you get a comfortable thin “brush”.
- Take a disposable deep plate and pour some alcohol into it.
- Dip the marker pen and brush it over a thin section of hair like a brush.
- Continue this way until you have completely dyed the hair on the wig.
- We recommend that you start with a strand near your face - perhaps, having seen how much time this process will take you, you simply won’t have the patience to finish this work.
And, of course, all these methods are only suitable for artificial wigs light shades.
How to dye artificial hair with clips
The methods described above are quite suitable for dyeing false hair on clips and for hairpieces.
Still, ideally, it is best to purchase new strands of the color you need, because... after any coloring they will no longer be the same as before. Artificial material is not designed for such independent intervention, so the hair will most likely become stiff and brittle.
Although, on the other hand, cosplay lovers quite often practice these methods on their various wigs in order to be as similar as possible to their favorite characters from Japanese cartoons - anime, with sometimes the most unpredictable shades of hair.
