How to instill a love of reading

Many parents notice their children's lack of interest in books. This is constantly repeated by psychologists, educators and teachers. But it will not work to correct the situation with phrases like “but in our time ...”. For a child to want to read, it is necessary to take a number of actions that will help the child to see the positive side of this activity.

Why does a child not like to read

Psychologists argue that a persistent dislike for reading books can be for several reasons. The most important of them are:

• Informational. Any books, regardless of their genre, are a source of information. Modern children watch TV, visit development centers, to which busy parents send them. At the same time, they want to raise child prodigies from children. Throughout the day, children perceive too much information and, accordingly, they do not always have enough perseverance, and even the strength to perceive something new. This is especially true in the evening. If we talk about schoolchildren, then they are too loaded with books and, of course, there is simply no desire to read fiction.
• Medical. Over the past years, the number of children with disorders of the central nervous system, speech therapy problems, as well as developmental delays has significantly increased. These children need to be given more attention. They cannot just read, it is important for them to understand information from books. Otherwise, such children are simply not interested in books, since they perceive books exclusively as paper with a set of letters.
• Pedagogical. Psychologists have long been trying to convey information to parents that it is impossible to force children to read. Thus, children have a dislike for books from an early age.

How to instill a love of reading

The constant flow of information prevents children from seeing the beautiful side of books. This is the main problem. How can you show your child that beautiful and fascinating world of interesting stories that you want to plunge into again and again? There are several ways:

• Personal example. If a child sees that his parents are reading books, sooner or later he will also begin to show interest in them. That is, parents themselves must love books, and then want it from their child.
• Relevant literature. It is unlikely that the kid will like a book on physics or cooking. It is recommended that children first be introduced to fairy tales. For example, teach you to listen to fairy tales before bedtime. When the baby learns to read, he will himself get acquainted with new fairy-tale stories with interest. It is very important to discuss what you read. For example, to focus on the actions of the heroes, ask how you liked the fairy tale, etc.
• Bright drawings. When a child is only learning to read, it is recommended to buy bright books with pictures that are an illustration of a fairy tale. This will help the baby to absorb information more easily. After reading, you need to discuss the tale by looking at the illustrations. Children like this pastime very much, as they feel like adults.
• You should never be forced to read! Any violent behavior of parents causes protest from children. Probably everyone noticed that in cases when they are forced to do something, the desire to fulfill the “request” simply does not arise. It is recommended that you find the perfect book that will really be interesting for your child.

In order for parents to be able to instill a love for books in their child, it is necessary to love them yourself. Only in this case, love for fiction can arise.
