How to instill a love of reading
Many parents notice a lack of interest in books in their children. Psychologists, educators and teachers constantly repeat this. But the situation cannot be corrected with phrases like “and in our time...”. In order for a child to want to read, it is necessary to take a number of actions that will help the child see the positive side of this activity.
Why does a child not like to read?
Psychologists say that a persistent dislike of reading books can be due to several reasons. The most important of them are:
- Informational. Any books, regardless of their genre, are a source of information. Modern children watch TV and visit development centers to which their busy parents send them. At the same time, they want to raise children to be child prodigies. Throughout the day, children perceive too much information and, accordingly, they do not always have enough perseverance or strength to perceive something new. This is especially true in the evening. If we talk about schoolchildren, they are overly loaded with books and, naturally, the desire to read fiction simply does not arise.
- Medical. Over the past years, the number of children with disorders of the central nervous system, speech therapy problems, and developmental delays has increased significantly. Such children need to be given more attention. They cannot just read; it is important for them to understand information from books. Otherwise, such children are simply not interested in books, since they perceive books exclusively as paper with a set of letters.
- Pedagogical. Psychologists have long been trying to convey to parents the information that children should not be forced to read. Thus, children develop a dislike for books from an early age.

How to instill a love of reading
The constant flow of information does not allow children to see the beautiful side of books. This is the main problem. How can you show your child that beautiful and fascinating world of interesting stories that you want to plunge into again and again? There are several ways:
- Personal example. If a child sees his parents reading books, sooner or later he will also begin to show interest in them. That is, parents must fall in love with books themselves, and then want this from their child.
- Related literature. It is unlikely that your child will like a book on physics or cooking. It is recommended that children be introduced to fairy tales first. For example, learn to listen to fairy tales before bed. When the baby learns to read, he will become familiar with new fairy tales with interest. It is very important to discuss what you read. For example, focus on the actions of the characters, ask why you liked the fairy tale, etc.

- Bright drawings. When the child is just learns to read, it is recommended to buy bright books with drawings that illustrate the fairy tale. This will help the baby perceive information more easily. After reading, you need to discuss the fairy tale, looking at the illustrations. Children really like this pastime, as they feel like adults.
- You should never be forced to read! Any cruel behavior of parents causes protest from children. Probably everyone has noticed that in cases where they are forced to do something, the desire to fulfill the “request” simply does not arise. It is recommended to find that ideal book that will really be interesting to the child.
For parents to be able to instill a love for books in their children, they must love them themselves. Only in this case can a love for fiction arise.
