Causes of periodontal disease
Periodontal disease is a non-inflammatory disease. In this case, the tissues surrounding the tooth are affected, gradually the defeat covers the entire oral cavity. The reason is poor blood supply to the tissues, due to which there is a lack of oxygen. The following factors can provoke the development of the disease:
- diseases of the nervous system, heart and blood vessels;
- gum problems during pregnancy;
- improper metabolism;
- trauma to the gums, which occurred as a result of a poorly placed filling;
- inadequate oral hygiene, which leads to plaque formation;
- lack of vitamins, especially P and C;
- malocclusion.
Contrary to popular belief, bacteria do not participate in the development of the disease. With periodontal disease, bone tissue dystrophy occurs, the inflammatory process does not develop.
Symptoms of periodontal disease
Symptoms directly depend on the stage of periodontal disease. In the early stages of development, the disease may not manifest itself in any way. Sometimes you may experience mild itching and aches. The patient has a feeling of mobility of the teeth, which are actually stable.
In the middle stage, there is already severe discomfort. The teeth become sensitive to hot and cold, react quickly to any irritants. Mobility appears, the distance between the teeth increases. The roots of the teeth are exposed and bad breath occurs.
With a severe illness, the space between the teeth increases even more. Mobility also increases, teeth begin to fall out. With weak immunity and insufficient hygiene, the gums become inflamed: they turn red, begin bleed... In addition, periodontal disease often causes the development of diseases of the stomach and intestines.
Treatment of periodontal disease in the dentist's office
To diagnose and treat the disease, you must consult a dentist. Medicines for periodontal disease cannot be taken without a doctor's prescription.
In dentistry, drugs are prescribed that improve blood microcirculation. Vitamin complexes, means for normalizing metabolism and some other drugs are also prescribed:
- Tykveol, which slows down the development of atherosclerosis.
- Trental, which has a vasodilating effect and enriches tissues with oxygen.
- Probiotics. They are lozenges that contain beneficial bacteria.
- Antiseptics, for example, furacilin solution. They are usually used in a severe stage because they inhibit the growth of bacteria.
- Insadol, which improves immunity and ensures the normal state of the skeletal system.
Antibiotics for periodontal disease are prescribed when it is accompanied by inflammation. These are usually powders or gels that are placed in the pocket after deep brushing or in situations where other treatments are ineffective. In no case should they be abused: this leads to an abscess and the need for surgical intervention.
Treatment is not limited to medication. The dentist will cure the teeth, carry out special treatment of the tooth enamel, teach the correct oral hygiene. In addition, the whole body needs to be strengthened, for which physiotherapy is best suited.
Additionally, procedures such as electrophoresis, vacuum massage, phonophoresis with medicinal ointments can be prescribed. Treatment with the help of folk remedies takes a special place in the therapy of the disease.
Treatment of periodontal disease at home
Some experts believe that treating periodontal disease at home is even more effective than in dentistry. Indeed, there are many ways to combat this disease. Here are some helpful tips:
- It is necessary to choose a good toothbrush, while not forgetting that it needs to be changed every two months. It is better to buy a special paste, from periodontal disease. Such a remedy increases blood flow in the oral mucosa and strengthens the periodontium. Dental floss is also helpful.
- A very important aspect of home therapy is rinsing. The fact is that during cleaning it is possible to remove plaque only from the upper part of the gums, and by rinsing it can be completely destroyed. For this procedure, you can use sea salt, which draws out inflammation, as well as decoctions of herbs: sage, St. John's wort, chamomile.
- Aloe is a valuable remedy, including in the treatment of periodontal disease. This plant heals, has antimicrobial properties, and helps stop the spread of infection.
- Tea bags are another affordable and effective way to fight disease. The tannins found in tea help the gums heal faster. The bags must be poured with boiling water for a couple of minutes, then cooled and placed on sore areas.
- Garlic juice will also help to strengthen the gums, with a slice of which they need to be rubbed every day. This procedure is carried out within two weeks. Sometimes a mixture of honey and salt is used instead of garlic.
Do not be afraid that at the very beginning of treatment, the gums may hurt and bleed even more. This is a defensive reaction of the body, and after ten days the unpleasant symptoms will pass.
Prevention of periodontal disease
You can fight periodontal disease, but the treatment takes a lot of time. It is much easier to take preventive measures in time and prevent the development of the disease. Here's what you need to pay attention to.
First of all, it is worth revising the diet, making it rich in seasonal vegetables and fruits, as well as herbs. Hard and raw fruits such as apples or carrots are especially beneficial. Such food helps to naturally remove plaque, provides a gentle massage of the gums.
You can also massage while brushing your teeth. It is done with soft circular movements, and in the morning the massage is carried out clockwise, and in the evening - against it. It is important to pay attention to the fact that you need to massage the gums after cleaning, and at the end you can rinse your mouth with a pharmacy elixir or infusion of medicinal herbs, for example, sage and oregano.
This massage is one of the best means of preventing periodontal disease. It provides blood flow to the gums, preventing congestion and increasing tooth mineralization.
There is another remedy that will help to strengthen teeth and improve the condition of the gums - special gymnastics. It needs a regular twig. For the first two weeks, you just need to carefully bite it from top to bottom. After that, you can move on to additional exercises: start moving your jaw vigorously, holding the twig with your teeth.
A month later, the third exercise is introduced: they try to bite off a piece from it, holding the twig with their hand. Thanks to such gymnastics, the muscles of the jaw tighten, blood flows to the teeth and gums.
Periodontal disease is a serious disease, but it is treatable. When the first symptoms are found, it should be started immediately, combining the therapy prescribed by the doctor with suitable traditional medicine.
