Breastfed babies still receive breast milk without much change. It contains all the nutrients your baby needs to grow. Therefore, it is recommended not to introduce any complementary foods for up to 6 months.

Many mothers are interested in the question - what to do with water? Should I give my baby a drink? Human milk is believed to have enough fluid to quench a baby's thirst. But everything is individual, there are no special rules on this issue. If the baby does not refuse water, then it is better to drink it, as dehydration can pose a significant threat. This is not the case with bottle-fed babies. In general, pediatricians are still arguing about the introduction of complementary foods. It used to be thought that juices can be added to the diet from one month of age. But nowadays, many doctors claim that they often cause allergic reactions in children. Therefore, the introduction of juices should be postponed to a later period.

The same goes for chicken yolk. In the old days, it was introduced early, since it was believed that it is a source of vitamin D. Nowadays, children are given Aquadetrim and the need for the introduction of this complementary food has disappeared. Since the yolk is the strongest allergen.

For artificial children, complementary foods are introduced from 4 months of age. This is due to the fact that the mixture does not provide the baby's body with a sufficient amount of vitamins and minerals. Complementary foods are introduced only as directed by the pediatrician. According to the standard, vegetable puree or porridge is initially introduced. This will depend on the baby's weight. In case of low weight, it is advisable to introduce porridge first. If the child is well-fed, then first introduce vegetable purees. To get started, cook squash-based puree or broccoli, these are the easiest foods for a baby's stomach.

Specialists' opinions also differ regarding the menu for a 4-month-old baby. One category thinks that you need to start with juices. And then introduce vegetable purees based on carrots, potatoes and pumpkin. Other doctors believe that you should start complementary foods with fruits. A third group of experts believe that at this age the child is more susceptible to allergies, and fruit supplements are best administered at 11 months.

When introducing one product, feed it to the child for a week, without introducing another complementary food into the diet. If the body's reaction is normal, then you can move on to the next new product. Everything new in the baby's menu is introduced in micro doses, after which the condition of the crumbs is monitored throughout the day. If you refuse a new product, do not force it in, leave it for a later time.

The menu is compiled on a case-by-case basis. The standard layout looks something like this:

  1. 6:00 AM - Give your baby an adapted formula or feed him with breast milk.
  2. 10 am - the child drinks milk or mixture and additionally fruit juice based on peach or apple.
  3. 14 hours - vegetable-based mixture and puree, can be made from zucchini or broccoli.
  4. At 6 p.m., give your child the mixture and fruit puree.
  5. At 8 o'clock in the evening, add the yolk of a chicken egg, its fourth part to the mixture.
  6. The baby should also suck the mixture before bed.

As already mentioned, you need to start complementary foods with small doses. If we talk about vegetable puree, then it is introduced as follows:

  1. From the first day, 5 g of puree is introduced, in the next 3 days, 5 additional grams are added.
  2. On the fifth day, the child can already eat 50 g of vegetable puree.
  3. Not the sixth day - 90-100 g.
  4. The seventh day assumes the amount of mashed potatoes in the amount of 120 g.
  5. And on the eighth day, one feeding is completely replaced with vegetable puree.

Until the fifth day, the same amount is introduced as vegetable puree, on the sixth day the child is already given 80 g of the product, and on the 7th day - 100-120 g. Start giving juice 1 teaspoon, by the end of the week the allowable amount is 40-50 ml.

Since the child is not familiar with new food, it is better to give it in the morning and at afternoon tea. Breast milk or an adapted formula is supplied in an amount of 800-900 g per day. If you notice allergic manifestations in a child or changes in stool, for example, the appearance of diarrhea or constipation, then complementary foods should be canceled.
