Causes of purulent eyes in a child
The main cause of purulent eyes in children is the inflammatory process of the mucous membrane.It can be triggered by a number of factors:
- bacteria such as streptococcus, staphylococcus, meningococcus, etc .;
- measles, herpes, or flu viruses;
- chlamydia;
- allergic reactions to pollen, dust, etc.
Most often, the eyes become inflamed precisely during the period of weakening of the immune system. For example, newborns can be infected while still in the womb, but when they are born, the body is not able to fight bacteria and viruses, therefore, inflammation of the mucous membrane of the eyes begins, accompanied by suppuration.
At an older age, in most cases, the cause of inflammation is inadequate care, contact with infected people, dirty toys and objects with which the child constantly contacts.
Given the fact that bacteria and viruses are transmitted by contact, a baby can get infected anywhere: in a kindergarten, in a hospital, on a playground and even at home, playing with what was brought from the street.
The first sign of infection is profuse tearing, first from one, then from both eyes. Over time it starts to appear redness and pus.
Treating pus in the eyes of a child
If a child's immune system is unable to cope with the infection on its own, parents should ensure that the inflammation is treated appropriately. For this, the following methods of dealing with this problem are used:
- Rubbing eyes. Usually, infusions of herbs such as chamomile, cornflowers, calendula are used. For their preparation, it is enough to insist 1 tbsp. l. herbs in a glass of boiling water. Furacilin solution is no less effective (1 tablet per 1 liter of water). Regular procedures, 3-4 times a day, will help eliminate discomfort and contribute to the elimination of the inflammatory process.
- Using antibacterial drops that relieve swelling, such as zinc-andrenaline drops.
- Using antibiotic drops. The most effective are drops based on chloramphenicol (0.25%), as well as albucid and cypromet.
- Massage of the nasolacrimal sac. It helps to restore the normal outflow in the nasolacrimal canal, respectively, it resumes and pus is no longer formed. You need to massage 6-8 times a day.
It is important to remember that any procedures, as well as medications, will have an effect only if the eye is completely cleared of pus. Therefore, before using drugs and massage, you need to thoroughly wipe your eyes with herbal infusion.
Eye care as prevention of suppuration
Whatever one may say, any disease is better prevented than treated later. This is especially true for children. So that the child's eyes do not become inflamed and, moreover, pus does not appear, you must adhere to simple rules:
- minimize communication with sick people;
- wash your hands and eyes thoroughly after walking;
- daily wipe the baby's eyes with boiled water;
- wipe the child exclusively with his personal towel;
- while walking, to wipe your hands or face, use sterile disposable wipes.
Even with the slightest increase in lacrimation in a child, it is recommended to rinse the eyes with a herbal solution at least several times to prevent the development of the disease.
