What fabrics are used for bed linen?
The modern bed linen market is quite diverse, so strange names of fabrics often confuse the inexperienced buyer. But everything is not as difficult as it seems. Among the main fabrics that are used for sewing, both bedding sets and individual components, the most popular are:
- Calico. This material is considered the most practical and inexpensive. It does not fade, is easy to wash and is pleasant to the body. Thick thread is used to make the fabric.
- Cotton. The natural properties of this material allow the skin to breathe, do not float, but warm. The price is acceptable for many buyers, and high quality, stylish design and pleasant-to-touch material make cotton bedding sets very popular.
- Ranfors is cotton, but special weaving is used to make the fabric, which significantly improves the characteristics of the material and increases its wear resistance.
- Percale. Even parachutes are made from this material. Accordingly, we can conclude that percale is distinguished by its reliability, durability and resistance to repeated washing. Such bed linen is not available to everyone because of its price. But, having bought just a few sets, you won’t have to think about buying new sets for many years to come.
- Silk wrinkles easily and this is its only drawback. Silk bedding is expensive, but is still popular, since its main advantages include high quality, durability, style, and beauty.
- Satin. It resembles silk, thanks to its beautiful shine. Bed linen made from this material is durable and beautiful, but is more expensive than, for example, calico.
- Poplin. During the production of this fabric, threads of different thicknesses are intertwined, which makes the material stronger. Poplin bed linen is easy to wash even in cold water and irons well.

Types of bed linen
To choose a suitable bedstead, you should write down in advance the dimensions of the blanket and pillow, the length and width of the bed. Accordingly, depending on these parameters, a set or individual components of bedding are selected.
There are the following bed linen sizes:
- 1.5 bedroom. Usually the set includes a duvet cover 150x210 cm, a sheet of the same size and 2 pillowcases.
- 2 bedroom. The width of the duvet cover can vary from 175 to 180 cm, and the height from 210 to 215 cm, the size of the sheet is slightly larger than in a one-and-a-half set - 210x220 cm or 220x230 cm. There can be either 2 or 4 pillowcases.
- Euro. This size is slightly different from the 2-bedroom. The size of the duvet cover is 200×220 cm or 210×225 cm, the sheets are 240×240 or 240×260 cm. The set must include 2 or 4 pillowcases.
- Family. Such sets are ideal for married couples who sleep in the same bed, but do not like to share a blanket. Family sets consist of 2 duvet covers 150x210 cm, as well as one large sheet 240x240 cm or 240x260 cm. Of course, 2 or 4 pillowcases are also included in the set.
It is important to note that the size of pillowcases can also vary. Most often it is 50x70 or 70x70 cm.

- Pay attention to the quality of the seams.
- Choose a color. For small children, it is recommended to buy a bed of pastel colors. For older people - bright sets. For adults, it is better to choose a color that will relax.
