25 weeks pregnant - what happens to the baby

Pregnancy-after-40s

Each time the baby becomes more and more like a newborn. This week, the changes in the baby's body are as follows:

  • The baby's skin begins to gradually smooth out and brighten, which is due to the growth of subcutaneous fat. It appears in the buttocks, arms and legs. Wrinkles may appear at this stage.
  • The child's bone and articular systems are actively strengthened.
  • In girls, at this stage, the vagina is formed, and in boys, the testicles descend into the scrotum.
  • At an ultrasound session, you can already notice which hand the baby prefers when playing, and this will be an indicator of whether he is left-handed or right-handed.
  • The bone marrow is gradually completing its formation. After that, he takes over the function of hematopoiesis in the spleen and liver.
  • Bone tissue continues to form, for which it needs a lot of calcium, which is borrowed from the mother's body. Therefore, a pregnant woman needs to eat more foods containing this element, otherwise teeth and gums will begin to suffer.

In growth, the baby has already reached 22-25 cm, and by weight 700 g. Now his ears continue to form, and if the baby is born earlier than the prescribed time, then the doctor will determine prematurity based on them. The baby's movements are already more coordinated, he can cover his face with his palms. Now that the genitals are fully formed, the specialist can accurately determine the sex of the baby.

25 weeks pregnant - what happens to mom

If the previous weeks did not differ in anything special, then this sensation can radically change. Especially often moms complain about heartburn, which intensifies due to even greater pressure of the uterus on the stomach. There are often situations when constipation is added to the existing ailments. Almost all ladies who are in an interesting position during this period note:

  • shortness of breath;
  • slight deterioration in the quality of vision;
  • pain at the moment of the baby's pushes (each time he becomes stronger, which affects the strength of his pushes);
  • swelling, which is more often manifested in the legs;
  • increased back pain, especially in the lumbar spine, which is associated with an increase in the weight of the crumbs.

By this time, the mother's body is already, in principle, accustomed to the process of carrying a baby, and the mother herself is not surprised at anything and is used to putting up with all the inconveniences and "surprises" of her body. But now the body, albeit little by little, will begin its preparation for the childbirth process. The crumb is almost completely formed, and all of its systems will continue to develop at an enviable pace.

Now the uterus is enlarged to the size of a soccer ball and it is easy to imagine what the rest of the organs have. In addition, with an increase in the load on the woman's body, the load on the heart muscle also increases, because it now needs to pump large volumes of blood. However, this should in no way affect the level of blood pressure. Therefore, if changes were nevertheless noticed, it is imperative to report this to the supervising doctor. Most likely, a specialist, after conducting a series of examinations, will prescribe a special diet or treatment with sparing medications.

Useful-pastime during pregnancy

It's normal to gain up to 400 grams this week. If increase more, you need to revise your diet, undergo an ultrasound session in order to eliminate the likelihood of polyhydramnios. It will also be useful to monitor the edema: whether they appear, how much they are delayed, the degree of their severity, etc.

At this time, all the changes that a woman notices in her body are mostly due to an increased level of prolactin. This is reflected in breast augmentation and preparation for subsequent breastfeeding. Colostrum begins to be secreted, which, by the way, should never be squeezed out. To avoid discomfort, you can purchase and put special pads in your bra that will prevent colostrum from leaking onto your clothes. Starting this week, the production of estrogen increases in a similar way, which is simply necessary for the early maturation of the baby. Against this background, a woman's maternal instinct multiplies, she no longer reacts to stress as much, as she is more focused on her position and baby than on outside troubles.

Now vaginal discharge becomes normal, which does not have a strong odor, transparent or with the presence of white blotches. But the cheesy ones with a strong sour smell, which are also accompanied by itching and other unpleasant sensations, should alert the future mother, since with a high degree of probability this symbolizes about thrush... If it is not cured before childbirth, then the baby can become infected at the time of passing through the birth canal.

With watery discharge, you need to urgently consult a doctor, as this indicates leakage of amniotic fluid, and this is already a harbinger of the onset of labor. But impurities of blood in the discharge, which are noted after sex or after examination by a gynecologist, may indicate the presence of erosion of the cervix, but it is often cauterized only after childbirth.
