9th week of pregnancy - what happens to the baby
By the beginning of the ninth week of pregnancy, your baby grows up to three centimeters from head to bottom, and his weight reaches five grams. For clarity, imagine a tennis ball - the entire embryo will fit inside it.
Even with such a tiny size, the embryo looks very much like a person. His neck has already formed, although his head is still pressed to his chest. Elbows and knees are formed on the arms and legs. On the legs, the feet became noticeably larger. The webbing between the tiny fingers has almost completely disappeared.
Thanks to the compaction of cells on the fingers, marigolds begin to form. True, now they are on the inside and only after a while will they take their usual place. The baby's spine gradually lengthens, and the tail turns into a tailbone. The face gradually acquires more human features. The nose becomes more shaped, the eyes become larger, and ears are formed. By the end of the ninth week, the baby can already wince and even swallow.
For the correct formation of organs, the body of the baby gradually stretches in length and width, and muscles are formed in turn. By this time, the baby’s brain is actively developing, it has a cerebellum and pituitary gland, which perform the most important functions in the human body.
The stomach, intestines and other digestive organs are actively forming. The adrenal glands are formed, the intestines lengthen, bile ducts are formed and, finally, the kidneys begin to work.
The immune system also actively develops in the ninth week. The thyroid gland and lymph nodes begin their activity, although their formation is not yet fully completed. The embryo’s heart is already quite developed, it actively contracts and directs the baby’s blood through the vessels.
Belly at 9 weeks pregnant
At this stage, changes continue in the body of the expectant mother. We can say that she feels the entire development of the baby on herself. The uterus, which gradually increases in size, constantly puts pressure on the bladder. Because of this, a woman often wants to go to the toilet. Appetite is constantly changing. At times, food simply makes you feel sick, but a moment comes and the woman cannot get enough. At the same time, her taste preferences amaze all relatives.
The body begins to store fat, which will be useful for feeding the unborn baby. In this regard, weight gradually increases. An expanding belly makes you think about changing your wardrobe and underwear.

If you do an ultrasound examination now, it will be possible to assess the development of the child and clarify the gestational age. In addition, you can see how the baby moves. During an ultrasound, you can listen to the baby’s heartbeat and examine its outline.
At nine weeks, the baby’s yolk sac is still visible on an ultrasound, but it is gradually decreasing. After all, he has already fulfilled his purpose.
Pain at 9 weeks of pregnancy
At this point, a pregnant woman may be bothered by pain in the back. If by the end of pregnancy the cause of these pains is obvious - a large belly, which creates additional stress on the back and shifts the center of gravity, then now the cause of the pain is different. This is often the response to increased uterine tone. If pain occurs quite often, for example, after physical activity or while getting out of bed, then you need to consult a doctor in order to exclude the possibility of uterine hypertonicity. If no measures are taken, a miscarriage may occur.
If a woman complains of constant aching pain or just discomfort in the back, then this may be a symptom pyelonephritis. This disease requires rest and antibacterial treatment.
If a pregnant woman has a stomach ache at this stage, then we can talk about spontaneous miscarriage. You should be especially wary if you feel like your stomach is forming into a ball. If, in addition to pain, bloody discharge from the vagina, you should consult a doctor as soon as possible.
