- Open basements. The fungus travels very well through the air. Therefore, if you live on the first or second floor, mold can easily enter your house through an open window.
- Gaps and holes in the wall. Until now, when searching for real estate, people check whether it is a corner apartment or not. This is especially true for older houses. New buildings do not arouse suspicion, since the façade of the house is insulated with special protective materials.
- Lack of ventilation. It is very important for the room that the air circulates in it. Mold cannot stay in a ventilated room and cannot tolerate light.
- Dampness. An ideal habitat for fungus.
Removing mold requires immediate attention, especially if it is black in color. This is the most dangerous type. It can cause cancer, heart attacks, suffocation, etc.
How to get rid of mold under wallpaper
We may disappoint you and tell you that the wallpaper will need to be removed and thrown away. But think about what is better: health or wallpaper? So feel free to start removing the wallpaper. But before that, it’s better to wash them so that the fungus doesn’t spread throughout the apartment. Place in a sealed bag and take it straight to the trash. Be sure to wear a mask or respirator. Fungi can enter the body and cause intoxication.
Let's get started with the main work:
- We clean off the fungus. To do this, arm yourself with sandpaper or a spatula. All fungus must be removed.
- Use a spatula to remove soft plaster. This means that there is a hole or crevice in this place, which is a source of habitat for mushrooms.
- Treat the surface with copper sulfate or another anti-fungal agent.
- We repeat the procedure 3-5 times.
- After the solution has dried, we begin to putty the hole and walls. You must carefully repair the slightest cracks. Otherwise, mold will become your neighbor again.
- After the putty has dried and sanded, the surface is again treated with an antiseptic 2-3 times and primed.
- At this point the procedures are completed and you can start gluing wallpaper.
It seems that everything is not so difficult. If the surfaces are large and the ceiling is affected, then the scale of the work can be enormous and take a lot of time. Don't rush to do everything in one day. As they say, it’s better to measure 7 times and cut once.
Mold Prevention
Mold mushrooms do not tolerate drafts and sunlight. If you have an ultraviolet lamp, then you are in luck. For preventive purposes, all corners and cracks can be illuminated with a lamp 2 times a month.
Don't forget to ventilate the room. If the room does not have a window, then a hairdryer is perfect. Blow hot air over the wall. Repeat the procedure at least once a week.
Do not place furniture close to the suspected source of mold.
Forget about carpets on the floors and walls.
These simple methods will help protect your apartment from unpleasant neighbors.
