How to crochet a skirt - options, description with diagrams

Surely everyone has a dress or skirt that is more than one or even two years old, but it still stubbornly does not go out of fashion and is still in the same perfect condition. But it has somehow become inconvenient to put it on, especially to work, if you have been working there for many years and the employees have long studied almost your entire wardrobe. Don't push it to the farthest corner of your closet in hopes that you'll wear it in a couple of years! Find a free evening, stock up on a crochet hook, a skein of thread and patience, and in the morning you can go to work in a completely different skirt.

How to crochet the bottom of a skirt

The simplest transformation is to tie the bottom of the skirt. You don’t need any special skills here, even if you are new to knitting, it will take you at most two hours.

For tying fabric, thin cotton threads of the “Iris” type and a hook No. 1.5 are usually used. Also, for thick fabric you will need a thick needle.

1. Along the edge of the skirt at an equal distance of 0.5-1 cm, make small holes with a thick needle. If the fabric of the skirt itself is thin and the hook easily passes through it, then this point can be avoided. In this case, for convenience, you can simply draw dots with a pencil at an even distance from each other.
2. Using a crochet hook, pull the loop to the front side.
3. Knit 2 single crochets into one hole.
4. Make 1 chain stitch and 3 single crochets into the next hole.
5. Repeat step #4 along the entire hem of the skirt.
6. If the hem of the skirt is asymmetrical and has right angles, then after knitting to the corner, make 3 air loops instead of one and knit 3 more single crochets into the same hole.
7. At the end of the row, knit another missing stitch into the first hole.
8. Then it all depends on your desire and taste: you can leave the skirt like this, or choose one of these patterns and, having knitted the air loops of the rise, continue knitting the lace bottom according to the pattern.

If you are completely confident in your abilities, then you can specially cut the hem of the skirt shorter and tie on a long lace hem. In this case, if the fabric is not very loose, you don’t even have to fold the edge of the skirt inward: single crochets will prevent the fabric from fraying and maintain a neat appearance.

How to crochet a belt for a skirt

If you are not yet ready for such drastic changes to your favorite skirt, then you can refresh it by tying a stylish belt, which, if desired, by removing it, you will return things to their original appearance. Temporarily move the knitted belt onto a dress or other skirt.

To make the item universal and suitable for both a skirt and a dress, we chose a corset-style belt at the waist. It will favorably emphasize your figure, add slimness and femininity. On the back, such a belt is tied with a small bow with two matching satin ribbons.

Knitting it will not be difficult: choose any pattern you like and knit according to the pattern, determining the desired length and width. At the back, thread two ribbons to the edges, sewing or tying them.

How to widen a skirt with crochet

It happens that a new item shrinks after washing, or having bought a smart skirt for your child, you didn’t even have time to put it on for a proper celebration when the girl grew out of it and all your attempts to fasten the belt were unsuccessful. Children grow up fast, and that's a fact. If this happens to you and you still have nothing to lose, you can try widening such a skirt using a hook.

1. Open the skirt along the side seams and iron the edges well.
2. In the same way as we tied the bottom of the skirt above, follow steps 1-5 to tie the edges.
3. Add 3 instep stitches and continue row after row in single crochets until you have added the desired width.
4. Connect the front and back of the skirt with single crochets.
5. Do the same on the other side.
6. Iron the skirt with a steam iron.

Crocheted leather skirt

Surely you have pieces of leather at home that “will come in handy someday.” These are old leather bags that are a pity to throw away, wallets, skirts, trousers and even boot tops.

Having collected a sufficient number of such pieces, even multi-colored ones, you can use them to assemble a quite decent skirt using the patchwork technique. Simply put, from scraps. Patchwork has its roots in ancient times, where women used this technique to make blankets and quilts in order to save money. But in our time, this type of sewing has become very popular, thanks to the uniqueness of each item made.

• Make a full-size skirt pattern taking into account the amount of material you have. If the skin has lost its original appearance over time and has become dull, do not rush to throw it away, moisten it generously with glycerin and leave for a day.
• Cut out the required number of even squares from the leather. Consider the size of the pattern, because each flap will become larger when tying.
• Genuine leather is much more difficult to pierce with a needle or hook than fabric. Therefore, you will need an awl or a special punch.
• When everything is ready, start tying each piece of leather on all sides in the same way as you previously tied the bottom of the skirt at the beginning of the article - with single crochets. Calculate the number of rows taking into account the size of the pattern and the amount of leather.
• Lay out the finished flaps according to the pattern and crochet them like regular motifs.
