How to make a canopy with your own hands
It takes a lot of effort to make the room cozy and beautiful. This also applies to the nursery. The canopy over the bed can add special charm to the room. Indeed, a room with such an accessory acquires airiness and lightness. The bed will look romantic in the parents' bedroom, and the canopy, sewn for the nursery, will delight little princesses, lovers of fabulous adventures.
DIY canopy for newborns
The baby cot is always equipped with a canopy. This has its advantages. Firstly, the curtain protects the baby from unnecessary noise, scatters bright light. Secondly, the canopy prevents insects and dust from entering the baby's bed. Well, the third advantage is that thanks to such protection, the child is not afraid of drafts.
The choice of material is based on natural fabrics. The density of matter will depend on the time of the child's birth. In the summer, you can choose thin linen, chiffon or tulle. In winter, give preference to silk or heavy cotton fabrics. The color of the fabric can be chosen for the general pattern of the room, but it is better to choose warm shades, so excessive brightness will not irritate the baby. Purchase lace, beads, or ribbons to decorate.
To work you need the following accessories:
- paper and pencil;
- meter;
- base material;
- narrow colored stripe;
- lace and ribbons.
The work is carried out according to the following instructions:
- The diagram is transferred to paper in accordance with the required dimensions. The main fabric is cut in two.
- The blanks are folded with the front side inward. After that, a pattern is made along the contour, the edges are rounded.
- The long side is sewn on a typewriter, the top remains intact. This is about 30 cm. Remember to sweep the edges.
- From above, two lines of 5 and 20 cm are marked from the edge.After that, with a thread with a needle, the lines are collected up to 1 m in length.
- The decorative fabric is cut in two and hemmed. Strips are cut along the outlined lines, and a fold is made.
- After that, the edges of the resulting canopy are made out with a lace or ribbon frill. The sides at the junction can be decorated with a bow.
Now the resulting product can be pulled onto the mount and enjoy your sewing talents.
Do-it-yourself canopy on an adult bed
To make a canopy for an adult bed, you will need almost the same devices as for a children's canopy:
- the required amount of fabric;
- lace frills, braid, etc. to decorate the product;
- threads and needles;
- sewing machine;
- frame.
Choose a fabric that allows air to pass freely. Its width should be the same as the height of the frame. If you had to join several pieces of fabric, then you should process all the edges, otherwise the fabric will be tousled. In the upper part of the canopy, rings are attached or loops are sewn to fix the product on the frame. If drapery is conceived, then ribbons are sewn in advance (you can from any fabrics and colors).
You can decorate the product based on your own preferences and imagination. It can be fringe with tassels, lace, lambrequin, or ruffles along the edges of the canopy.
How to hang a canopy
The frame for the product can be purchased ready-made or made to order. You can build it yourself, but if you do not understand this, it is better to trust knowledgeable people. To hang the canopy or fix it, you can use one of several methods:
- A method called a crown. This is a circle suspended above the bed, where the canopy is actually attached. The result is a semblance of an oriental bedroom.
- Profile cornice. It is fixed by experts directly to the ceiling. Most often, such a product repeats the boundaries of the bed.
- Some beds are sold with extra corner supports. In this case, the question of where to fix the canopy does not arise. Supports can be made by yourself from wooden beams or metal tubes, they are connected to each other.
Don't forget to follow the safety rules.
When planning a canopy in your room or nursery, do not forget about some of the features of such furniture, for example, visually such a bed will make the ceilings lower. Therefore, a four-poster bed will look appropriate in wide rooms with high ceilings.
