When cleaning oily stains, it is important to get started as quickly as possible. This will simplify the process and improve the result. Be sure to blot the oil with a paper towel to remove some of the fat.
After that, fill up the oil stain salt and leave for an hour. The salt will pull the oil out of the fabric towards itself. After an hour, the used salt must be shaken off and a new portion must be added. This should be done until the pollution disappears.
Instead of salt, starch can be used in a similar way. In this case, it is necessary to put a plate under the fabric and sprinkle a little starch on it, starch is also poured over the stain. After three hours, the starch is shaken off and the result is evaluated. If the stain still remains, then the procedure must be repeated.
To fight old stains oils more serious measures are required. Fat of animal origin and vegetable oils, which are most often used by housewives in everyday life, are washed quite well with organic solvents. But before using such a product, do a small test on an inconspicuous area. If the fabric is not damaged or shed, then try to wash the stain with the product of your choice.
Almost all types of fabrics, and even wool, can be washed well with gasoline. For cleansing, a solution is prepared from equal parts of gasoline and warm water and the affected area is treated with it.

As in the case of regular oil, technical oils are better washed fresh:
- Sprinkle the dirt immediately with ground white chalk and allow butter soak into it, and then brush it off. If there are still traces of the stain, then repeat the procedure. Mustard or tooth powder, talc, starch are used in the same way.
- After that, the soiled thing must be put into hot water. The temperature should be the highest that this particular type of fabric can withstand.
- Then the household soap rub the stain and wash off with a soft brush or sponge.
- Finally, the item is completely washed in the usual way.
If old engine oil stains are found, other remedies will work.
The initial treatment of the stain is carried out with a conventional dishwashing detergent. It is generously poured onto a contaminated place and after a quarter of an hour it is removed from paper with a napkin. And then washed in hot water.
Another way is to use solvents or kerosene. It is applied to a dirty place and a soft cloth is erased from the edges of the dirt to the center. After that, the thing must be washed by hand in very hot water.
Usually, after processing with kerosene or solvents, the thing remains a strong unpleasant odor. To eliminate it, the thing will have to be washed and air dried for a long time and thoroughly.
How to remove oil from towels
It is very difficult to tidy up kitchen towels, which are often oily stained. As strange as it may sound, sunflower oil will help in the fight against oily stains. By washing dirty towels with stubborn grease stains with the addition of vegetable oil, you can return them to their original cleanliness.
To do this, boil a large pot of water and pour in 2 large tablespoons of sunflower oil, the same amount of bleach and the same portion of baking soda. Place the damaged towels in the solution and let the solution cool down. Then transfer the towels to the drum of the washing machine and start the desired wash program. The sunflower oil will soften the remaining fat and the dirt will easily come off.
