To clean the entire surface of the iron, you can use a regular vinegar... Just soak a cloth in it and wipe off any dirt. Stains should disappear. If there are still dirty spots on the working surface of the appliance, then place the iron on a piece of cloth soaked in vinegar. Leave the device in this form overnight. During this time, the contamination must move away. In the morning, simply wipe down the surface of the iron with a cloth.
How to descale the iron inside
If you use a steam iron for ironing, then sooner or later scale builds up in the water tank. The iron starts to work poorly because of this, scale particles fall out of the holes and spoil things.
You can remove the accumulated scale using this home method:
- Dissolve a package of citric acid in heated water and pour this solution into the iron reservoir. Use a syringe for convenience.
- Now plug in the iron and set it to the highest setting. When the iron is fully heated, press the steam release button several times or use the "steam boost" function. It is better to do this over some wide container so as not to spoil the surface with a citric acid solution.
- Then fill the reservoir of the iron with clean water and follow the steps from the previous point to clean the citric acid from the inside of the iron.
How to clean the soleplate of an iron
The work surface of the iron can be cleaned with home proven products. For an iron with a regular sole, that is, not covered with Teflon, regular salt is perfect. Sprinkle it on a newspaper and simply run it over the salt with a heated iron. All carbon deposits on the iron will be transferred to salt crystals. You will notice this as soon as the salt starts to darken.
Another tried-and-true method is to clean the soleplate with laundry soap. To do this, heat the iron and wipe the soleplate with a piece of laundry soap. Now unplug the iron and let it cool down. Then just wash off the soap, the carbon deposits will go away with it.
The mixture is perfect for cleaning the soleplate of the iron. soda and dish detergent. Stir these ingredients to make a gruel. Spread it on the working surface of the appliance and leave it for a quarter of an hour. Then simply wipe off the cleaning compound using a sponge. Severely dirty areas can be rubbed with force.
