In any living space there is windows, in need of a decent frame. Usually this role is played by curtains or tulle. But correctly selected beautiful curtains are not enough. In order for window “clothing” to please you with its appearance for a long time, it must be washed correctly.

Rules for washing tulle

For a long time, women washed tulle by hand so as not to spoil the delicate fabric in an activator-type washing machine. Now that automatic washing machines have appeared that are gentle on delicate fabrics, the process of washing tulle has become much easier. You just need to know the important rules and follow them, then the tulle will remain like new for a long time:

  • Any tulle needs careful handling. Such matter is afraid of high temperatures. Therefore, you cannot wash them with hot water or iron them with a very hot iron - the tulle will turn yellow. In this case, slightly warm water will do, and there is no need to iron this material at all.

  • There is no need to intensively rub the fabric during the washing process, since dirt is already removed well. If you wash the tulle every three months, then the dirt will not have time to eat into the fibers, and maintaining whiteness will not be difficult.
  • If the windows face a street with heavy traffic or the curtains hang in kitchen, then you will have to wash them more often.
  • Before washing, the removed curtains should be taken out to the balcony or outside and the accumulated dust should be thoroughly shaken out of them. This will significantly improve the quality of the wash.

How to wash tulle in a washing machine

Before loading the curtains into the washing machine, fold it carefully several times. This will prevent the formation of numerous creases on the material that will need to be smoothed out with an iron. If the tulle is made of very delicate and expensive fabric, for example, embroidered organza, then put it folded in a special laundry bag.

The regular detergent used for automatic washing machines is suitable, or you can use a special detergent for delicate fabrics. There are also special powders that are used to wash curtains; they contain starch and bleaching components.

Many modern washing machines are equipped with a special washing program. curtains. If your assistant does not have such a program, then you will need to set the washing parameters yourself:

  • Temperatures up to 40 degrees are suitable for washing tulle.
  • Do not select the intensive mode; dirt will easily come off the mesh fabric.
  • But don’t limit the washing time; soaking the dirt for a long time will only be beneficial.
  • Be sure to add an extra rinse to completely remove any foam that has formed.
  • Avoid spinning so that the openwork fabric is not damaged.
  • Reduce the amount of washing powder by half, because the machine will operate with an incomplete load.

When the wash cycle is complete, remove the curtains from the machine and allow the water to drain. After this, straighten the tulle and hang it damp on the curtain rods.

How to wash tulle so it stays white

Before the main washing process, soak dirty tulle in warm water. First add a little detergent to the water and stir well. Soaking will remove surface dirt and allow the detergent to penetrate deeper into the fibers of the fabric.

If the tulle is very dirty or yellowness appears after washing, use a bleaching agent or a special stain remover for curtains.
