How to plant a rose at home
Usually, indoor roses are sold in flower shops already in pots. In this case, all that is required of the hostess is to create suitable conditions for the rose and take proper care of it. But what if you wanted to plant a rose yourself, for example from bouquet? This can also be done.
First, prepare everything you need:
- Rose flower.
- Sharp knife or garden pruner.
- Pot for planting a flower.
- Universal primer.
- Kornevin or heteroauxin.
The first step is to prepare the rose stalk. Take a slightly brown stem and cut a stalk containing three buds from the middle. The length of this cutting should be about 15 cm. Make the top cut directly two centimeters above the bud. The lower cut should be made one centimeter below the kidney, always at an angle of 45 degrees. The lowest leaf needs to be cut off. Cut the top leaves in half. So they will not take many nutrients for themselves, but sap flow in the cuttings will not stop either.
Now the cuttings must be left for a day in a solution of root or other growth stimulant. Dilute it according to the instructions. Take only purified and settled water, water from a spring is best suited.
Now you need to prepare the ground. You can buy it ready-made in the store or prepare it yourself. If you decide to make the soil yourself, then mix humus, garden soil and sand in a 2: 2: 1 ratio. Stir and heat slightly in the oven to exclude various diseases.
Place a drain on the bottom of a tall pot. This is necessary so that the water does not stagnate. You can plant a stalk in different ways:
- In potatoes. Take a medium-sized potato, remove all eyes from the tuber so that they do not grow. Make a hole in the potato and insert the stalk into it, after dipping it into the root. Plant the potatoes in a pot, water and cover with a large jar. The potato will give the cuttings the moisture they need and protect them from germs. Spray the soil under the jar and the cutting itself with water several times a day.
- Into the ground. You don't have to bother with potatoes, but plant the cutting directly into the ground, dipping it into the root. Two buds should remain above the ground. Water the cutting well and cover with a jar too. Place the pot with the shank in a cool but light enough place.
- The emergence of roots in water... You do not need to plant the cutting immediately in a pot of soil, but leave it in a jar of clean water and wait for the roots to appear. This will happen in about two weeks. All this time it is necessary to change the water daily.
When shoots and young leaves appear on the handle, this will mean that the rose has taken root. It is necessary to gradually remove the jar and accustom the plant to dry apartment air. After removing the can, the cutting should be sprayed with water daily. Remove the buds that appear at first - while it is necessary to give time to the root system to develop.
How to care for a rose at home
Indoor roses love warmth, so southwest or southeast windows are ideal for them. Here they will not be too hot, the roots will not overheat, the buds and leaves will be green and fresh. In the spring and autumn, indoor roses need additional lighting. To do this, with the onset of darkness, you will need to turn on the fluorescent lamp next to the flower. Such lamps should be placed on top of the plant at a distance of 30 cm. This will extend the flowering period of indoor roses.
Roses are very whimsical about humidity. They need to be sprayed frequently. Evening time is best for this. You can place a bowl of water next to the flower pot to humidify the air. For the winter period, the flower needs rest so that the plant can rest before active summer growth. During this period, you need to water it less, turn off artificial lighting.
In the spring, start watering the rose more often, gradually increasing the amount of watering. Do not flood the plant, this can rot its roots. The first sign of root decay is the appearance of small white insects on the ground in a pot. In this case, you need to reduce watering as much as possible.
In the summer, the rose needs a lot of water, because it needs to grow. If you notice that the rose has begun to wither, the soil in the pot is dry, then transfer the plant to the shade and pour it with warm water. From the second half of August, gradually reduce the number of waterings. In the fall, water the plant with cool water so as not to provoke its active growth.
When to replant roses
Having bought a room rose in a store, do not rush to transplant it. To get started, just observe the plant by placing the pot on the sunny side of the apartment. If within the next two weeks the rose feels good, then you can start transplanting it.
For transplanting, take a pot larger than the one in which you bought it. Do not make the mistake of many novice florists who take too spacious pots for flowers. The correct pot should be slightly larger than the previous one for the plant to feel comfortable in it.
Transplant the rose in such a way as not to damage the clod of earth in which the roots of the plant are located. Place a layer of drainage about one and a half centimeters thick on the bottom of the new pot. Then transfer the rose from the old pot to a new one and sprinkle it with a store-bought universal soil. Don't forget to water the plant.
