How to plant a rose at home
Typically, indoor roses are sold in flower shops already in pots. In this case, all that is required from the housewife is to create suitable conditions for the rose and properly care for it. But what if you want to plant a rose yourself, for example from bouquet? You can do this too.
To get started, prepare everything you need:
- Rose flower.
- A sharp knife or garden pruner.
- A pot for planting a flower.
- Universal primer.
- Kornevin or heteroauxin.
The first step is to prepare the rose cutting. Select a slightly brown stem and from its middle cut a cutting containing three buds. The length of such a cutting should be approximately 15 cm. Make the top cut directly two centimeters above the bud. The bottom cut should be made a centimeter below the bud and always at an angle of 45 degrees. The lowest leaf needs to be cut off. Cut the top leaves in half. This way they will not take many nutritional components for themselves, but the flow of sap in the cuttings will not stop.
Now the cuttings must be left for a day in a solution of root or other growth stimulant. Dilute it according to the instructions. Take only purified and settled water; spring water is best.
Now you need to prepare the soil. You can buy it ready-made in the store or prepare it yourself. If you decide to make the soil yourself, then mix humus, garden soil and sand in a ratio of 2:2:1. Stir and warm a little in the oven to eliminate various diseases.
Place drainage at the bottom of a tall pot. This is necessary to ensure that the water does not stagnate. You can plant a cutting in different ways:
- In potatoes. Take a medium-sized potato, remove all the eyes from the tuber so that they do not grow. Make a hole in the potato and insert the cutting into it, after dipping it in the root. Plant the potatoes in a pot, water and cover with a large jar. Potatoes will provide the cuttings with the necessary moisture and protect them from microbes. Spray the soil under the jar and the cutting itself with water several times a day.
- To the ground. You don’t have to bother with the potatoes, but plant the cuttings directly in the ground, dipping them in the root. Two buds should remain above the ground. Water the cutting well and also cover with a jar. Place the pot with the cutting in a cool but fairly bright place.
- The appearance of roots in water. You don’t have to plant the cutting immediately in a pot of soil, but leave it in a jar of clean water and wait for the roots to appear. This will happen in about two weeks. During this time, it is necessary to change the water daily.
When shoots and young leaves appear on the cuttings, this will mean that the rose has taken root. You need to gradually remove the jar and accustom the plant to dry conditions. apartment air. After removing the jar, the cuttings should be sprayed with water daily. Remove the buds that appear the first time - while you need to give time to the root system to develop.
How to care for roses at home
Indoor roses love warmth, so the ideal place for them would be southwest or southeast windows. Here they will not be too hot, the roots will not overheat, the buds and leaves will be green and fresh. In spring and autumn, home roses need additional lighting. To do this, when darkness falls, you will need to turn on a fluorescent lamp next to the flower. Such lamps should be placed on top of the plant at a distance of 30 cm. This will extend the flowering period of indoor roses.
Roses are very picky about humidity. They need to be sprayed frequently. Evening time is best for this. To humidify the air, you can place a bowl of water next to the flower pot. During the winter, the flower needs rest so that the plant can rest before active summer growth. During this period, you need to water it less and turn off artificial lighting.
In the spring, start watering the rose more often, gradually increasing the number of waterings. Do not overwater the plant; this may cause its roots to rot. The first sign of root rot is the appearance of small white insects on the ground in the pot. In this case, you need to reduce watering as much as possible.
In the summer, the rose needs a lot of water, because it needs to grow. If you notice that the rose has begun to wither and the soil in the pot is dry, then move the plant to the shade and water it with warm water. From the second half of August, gradually reduce the amount of watering. In the fall, water the plant with cool water so as not to provoke its active growth.
When to replant roses
Having bought an indoor rose in a store, do not rush to replant it. To begin, simply observe the plant by placing the pot on the sunny side of the apartment. If the rose feels good over the next two weeks, then you can start replanting it.
To replant, take a larger pot than the one you bought it in. Don’t make the mistake of many novice gardeners who choose pots that are too spacious for their flowers. The correct pot should be slightly larger than the previous one so that the plant feels comfortable in it.
Replant the rose by transshipment in such a way as not to damage the clod of earth in which the roots of the plant are located. Place a layer of drainage about one and a half centimeters thick at the bottom of the new pot. Then transfer the rose from the old pot to the new one and sprinkle with store-bought universal soil. Don't forget to water the plant.
