Attention deficit disorder in children
This chronic condition affects more and more children, sometimes it persists beyond adulthood. People with attention deficit, as a rule, have low self-esteem, it is difficult for them to build relationships with peers and teachers. Increased excitability does not allow concentrating and assimilating material during training.
Most children have less symptoms as they get older, but some have lived with it their entire lives. It is completely impossible to get rid of the problem, complex therapy only reduces excitability. The treatment method includes behavior correction, the work of a psychologist with the baby's family, and medication. When treatment is started early, the chances of a positive result are higher.
Causes of attention deficit
Attention deficit is diagnosed in about 5% of children, and this figure is increasing every year. Let's figure out the reasons for its occurrence. The factors that absolutely accurately influence the formation of the disease in a child have not been scientifically confirmed. The harmful effects are conventionally divided into 3 groups: intrauterine (prenatal), generic (natal) and the effects of the first years of life (postnatal).
Nevertheless, the main causes of the onset of the disease include:
- Birth trauma: asphyxia, spinal injury, internal hemorrhage.
- Infectious diseases of the expectant mother, taking medications.
- Diseases at a young age accompanied by high fever, taking potent drugs.
- Chronic diseases of internal organs, different stages of diabetes, asthma, pneumonia.
- Harmful habits of a pregnant woman: smoking, alcoholism, food poisoning, abdominal trauma.
- Complicated labor with the use of stimulants, transience or delay in labor, cesarean section.
Attention deficit symptoms
All children with attention deficit disorder have the same symptoms:
- They find it difficult to concentrate on one activity or subject. Inattention is characteristic when performing any task. If something has to be done for a long time, then the baby will be bored and distracted. Getting him to focus on one thing is almost impossible.
- When completing the task, the child is distracted by extraneous sounds, other external stimuli. It is difficult for them to sit upright and motionless. The child crawls, moves his arms and legs, turns his head. Receiving a task, children put it off for the last, without finishing what they started, start a new one.
- Characteristic hyperactivity that manifests itself in constant movement and conversation. They cannot stay in one place. Often such children experience nervous excitement, excitement, pulling at their hair, and biting their nails.
- The actions and gestures of such children are very impulsive. When answering a question, the baby begins to speak without thinking, without even listening to the interlocutor. They easily wedge themselves into the conversations of unfamiliar adults and can make inappropriate remarks.
This disease in advanced forms can be accompanied by a serious violation of behavior, anxiety, depression.
How to treat attention deficit disorder
In foreign practice, psychostimulants are used to treat the disease, which regulate the level of special brain elements - neurotransmitters. Medicines can significantly reduce the manifestations of hyperactivity. Stimulants have a large list of contraindications, the dosage should be selected by the doctor, and the parents should closely monitor the intake in order to avoid overdose.
With less potent antidepressant drugs, it is also possible to reduce the child's hyperactivity. However, there is a possibility that children may develop suicidal thoughts or other signs of depression when using medication. Therefore, it is necessary to resort to taking medications only at advanced stages of the disease.
In Russia, a more gentle complex treatment is most common, which should include:
- Providing a well-planned routine for the baby's day. It is difficult for active children to rebuild, clear rules develop their confidence in themselves and the world around them. During the day, you need to arrange rest breaks.
- Baby's motor activity non-competitive nature helps to ensure the correct load, reduce nervous irritability. The kid learns to control his body and mind.
- Working with parents to teach the style of communication with the child. You need to avoid strict control and punishment, encourage correct behavior, show your love. When situations of uncontrolled behavior arise, parents should remain calm, give the baby an opportunity to calm down, and then discuss his behavior.
- When studying at school the teacher must choose the most suitable methods for the child, pay special attention to him. In rare cases, homeschooling is indicated.
- The joint leisure of parents and children improves the emotional state of the baby.
More and more children suffer from attention deficit disorder. Deterioration of the environment, hereditary diseases, constant exposure to computer technology lowers the stability of the psyche, as a result of which children are born with increased excitability. It is difficult for them to control their behavior, but symptoms decrease with age. Only complex therapy with mild sedatives, relaxation techniques and the correct communication technique in the family can help to cope with the problem.
