Clothes in Russian folk style
Russian folk style is images based on the traditional costume of a particular country.
Russia has a very colorful, bright, light and cheerful traditional costume. There is something unique and captivating about a traditional costume. The appearance of the national costume is influenced by factors such as climate, lifestyle, and occupation.
Russian traditional costume most often has a high-waisted silhouette. This dress is made of quality fabrics. Light, light-colored cotton materials are suitable for winter, and woolen fabrics are used for winter clothing.
Dresses can have several petticoats, which provides a woman with warmth. Russian national costume implies comfort and functionality. Therefore, costumes are often multi-layered precisely because of the climate: a large number of petticoats and the presence of warm scarves on the head make a woman feel warm and comfortable in any weather.
The sleeves of the dress can be of different lengths: in winter they are long with ruffled cuffs, and in summer they have puffed sleeves. Russian folk style involves not only dresses, but also sundresses. Sundresses are usually of maximum length, with shawls and capes on the shoulders. The color scheme of the traditional Russian folk style is red and white.
Modern clothes in Russian folk style
Modern clothing in Russian folk style is, of course, very different from its original appearance. Today, Russian style has only elements from the Russian national costume.
The silhouettes here can be different, both fitted and straight. Dresses can be either maximum length or above the knee.
Signs of modern Russian folk style are the characteristic color scheme, which consists of red, white, and gold. In addition to the listed colors, Russian folk style also involves the presence of prints. Usually these are drawings of plant origin: flowers, berries, twigs, leaves. These prints are usually very bright. If these are flowers, then large ones, similar to roses or peonies. If these are berries, then they are red, similar to rowan berries. In general, in the Russian folk style, even in modern execution, there is a reference to the historical roots of the national costume.
The photo below shows products that perfectly illustrate modern Russian folk style.
Collection of clothes in Russian style
Collections using elements of Russian folk style are used not only by domestic, but also by foreign designers. Denis Simachev, Ulyana Sergeenko and other Russian designers use floral prints and gold painting as a distinctive feature of Russian-style clothing.
Foreign designers have also moved away from the classic silhouette of Russian folk style, but use handmade decoration with expensive materials, stones and threads.
Children's clothing in Russian style
Clothes in Russian folk style still cannot be called everyday. Most often, a variety of dresses and jackets are created in this style, but they always look too elegant and formal for a daily look. And childhood is the best time to wear clothes in Russian folk style. Once the girl grows up, she may never wear such clothes again. And Russian folk style is very light, noble and looks great on children.
If your daughter is very active, then you should buy a wide sundress or a high-waisted dress for her. It is better to choose sleeves without elastic bands, because if the child’s skin itches from the elastic band or any ribbons, then the girl simply will not wear such a dress.
For an active child, you can even combine pants or jeans with a tunic or blouse in the Russian folk style. This look will be very comfortable and casual, but still dressy.
To create a children's look in Russian folk style, a combination of a sundress and a vest made of the same fabric is also suitable. On your feet, this set is best paired with knee socks and shoes of a matching color.
DIY Russian style clothes
There are not many high-quality clothes in Russian folk style in stores. In addition, such clothes are very individual. Things should be everyday and practical, but at the same time retain the Russian spirit. You can sew such things yourself, choosing the style and color of the product that suits you.
Of course, the most common embodiment of Russian folk style is the sundress. Sewing it is not difficult, but the material must be natural and dense.
In order to sew a sundress in the Russian style, you only need three measurements: chest volume, length of the product and length of the straps (which is included in the total length of the product).
The obtained measurements must be written down and the sundress cut according to them. For sewing a sundress, two pieces of fabric 1.5 meters each are suitable. These pieces make up the front and back of the sundress. The pattern you will get is very simple, but do not forget that the front part of the sundress should be 10 centimeters longer than the back (this margin is taken so that the rise of the chest does not take away the length of the entire product).
After you sew the two parts of the sundress together, you need to sew straps to them, and trim the edges with bias tape or any other decorative tape. The sundress turns out to be very comfortable and practical. Many women wear such sundresses at home.
Clothes for newborns in Russian style
Clothes for newborns in Russian folk style should consist of soft natural materials. These are linen and cotton.
As for products specifically, baby vests and dresses are most often sewn in the Russian folk style. They often choose the style of a home shirt in the Russian folk style. This is white cotton, from which the product is sewn with a large number of decorative ribbons, ruffles and folds. The main thing is that ruffles and ribbons cannot harm the child, and that the fabric does not cause irritation.
Today, online stores offer entire collections of Russian-style clothing for children and newborns. You can choose both individual products and sets in which the baby looks very elegant and beautiful.
Patchwork clothes in Russian style
Sewing products from patches today is considered a separate direction from sewing, which is called “patchwork”. Patchwork involves products sewn from a large number of patches, but the functionality and size of the product are not important - it can be either a blanket or a decorative scarf around the neck.
There is a place for patchwork in the Russian national style, because this technique was used back in ancient Russia. Today, the patchwork method is used to sew not only household items, but also clothes.
In the Russian folk style, either the entire sundress or some part of it can consist of scraps. For example, in sundresses with a high waist, only the chest area is sewn from patches, and the hem itself consists of one piece of fabric.
They also use scraps in the design of scarves. Multi-colored items add cheerfulness to the look in Russian folk style.
