As the child grows, he becomes more active. At 10 months he can already sit and crawl. And some babies are already trying to take their first steps. Of course, at this time, mother’s milk becomes insufficient for the normal development of the baby. He is energetic and wants to eat often. What can a 10 month old baby eat?
The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has developed an approximate list of products that are acceptable for children 10 months of age. So you can safely add the following products to your child’s new dishes:
- Fruits in the form of juices and purees, the permissible limit per day is 90-100 ml. Juices should only be natural and freshly squeezed; if it is new to the child, then start with one teaspoon.
- Vegetable purees can be given in the amount of 200 g. When introducing legumes into the diet, start with green peas and spinach.
- It is recommended to give milk porridge the same amount.
- Cottage cheese is calculated for 50 g. It saturates the body with calcium, so try to feed it to your baby every day.
- Half an egg yolk. It can be added to porridge or puree. You can start getting acquainted with eggs by initially using quail eggs.
- The norm of meat puree per day is 60-70 g. The child’s body already well absorbs dietary types of meat, such as rabbit, chicken, lean beef and pork. Fish puree a little less from 30 to 60 g.
- Kefir and other fermented milk products are allowed to be given up to 500 ml per day.
- Whole milk, provided you are not allergic to it, – 200 ml.
- Dry cookies or crackers – 10-15 g.
- A piece of white wheat bread is allowed up to 10 g.
- Vegetable or butter is added to dishes at a rate of 6 g per day.
These products and their quantity are designed so that the child will additionally receive mother's milk as the main feeding. If the baby is bottle-fed, then these will be formulas adapted for his age.
When introducing fish into the menu, clean and cook it very carefully; it is not acceptable if bones remain in the fish fillet. You need to cook this product in boiling water, so the fish will not lose its beneficial qualities. Baby food stores also sell ready-made fish pastes. If you trust the manufacturers, then you can purchase them. If a child suffers from allergies, then you will have to wait a bit with fish dishes.
Menu for a 10 month old baby
Doctors have developed the following menu for a child at 10 months:
- An early breakfast begins at 6 o'clock - at this time 200 ml of formula or breast milk will be enough.
- From 10 o'clock the main breakfast - Breastfeeding is replaced with porridge (180 g), fruit puree (50 g) and half an egg yolk.
- At 2 o'clock in the afternoon you can feed the baby lunch - give him 180 g pureed soup or vegetable puree. This will not be enough, so supplement your child with meat puree (50 g) or one fish cutlet, plus a piece of bread.
- At 18:00 dinner is served - 50 g of cottage cheese and fruit puree, half a glass of kefir (100 g), one cookie or a slice of bread.
- If the child asks to eat, then late dinner occurs at 22:00 - at this time, feed the baby with your milk or formula (200 ml.).
How much should a baby eat at 10 months?
The amount of food consumed by a 10-month-old baby should be calculated based on his weight. The child's weight is divided by 9, as a result you will find out how much food he can eat per day. If we take averages, the approximate weight of a 10-month-old child is 9-10 kg. If you divide it by 9, then the daily dose of food consumed will be equal to 1000-1250 g. Dividing the resulting volume by the number of feedings, it turns out that each time the baby should receive 200-250 g of food. The quantity of each individual product was described above.
Many pediatricians recommend giving the child more solid food as a second course from the age of 10 months, so that the baby can pick it up and chew on it independently. This way the baby will begin to get acquainted with new products. In addition, from this age you can begin to teach your child to hold a spoon independently and try to eat.
