Causes of puffiness under the eyes
There are a lot of reasons that can lead to edema. Often this is how a large amount of salt in the body manifests itself. Salt retains water, especially if overused in the evening. In this case, with a high probability, the next morning, the puffiness will not be limited only to the eyes, but will also manifest itself on the body. If the body is strong, and such "pampering" is rare, then there may not be bags, but relapses can make the problem permanent. In this case, it is worth monitoring your diet and reducing salt intake, especially in the evening.
Another reason for the formation of puffiness under the eyes is age-related changes. As sad as it is to realize, but every year the skin does not get better. It is in this place that the first age-related changes appear - the skin becomes thinner, the muscles weaken and cannot support it as before. The adipose tissue begins to "fall through", as it were, which looks like edema from the outside. If fluid retention in the body is added to this, then the situation does not look at all rosy, and the problem turns into a chronic stage.
General body fatigue and constant eye strain is another reason for the formation of edema. Prolonged stay in front of a computer monitor, work in poor conditions, reading texts in poor lighting, prolonged viewing of TV - all this disrupts the process of blood circulation in the eye area. There are times when edema is hereditary. In this case, such problems manifest themselves not only in age, but also in childhood and adolescence. Such puffiness is isolated, i.e. except for the skin under the eyes, there are no additional symptoms. The reason for such edema lies in the excess of adipose tissue in the eye area.
Swelling can be caused by impaired lymphatic and venous flow, which often occurs after surgery in district head, for example, after a rejuvenation procedure. This condition is due to the accumulated intercellular fluid.
Another reason for the appearance of puffiness under the eyes is mechanical damage. These are fractures and bruises, as well as insect bites. Moreover, the blow or bite does not have to fall precisely in the area under the eyelids, the upper part of the head may be the site of the lesion. Such edema goes away on its own over time, without additional treatment.
Swelling of the lower eyelids can occur during pregnancy, as well as during hormonal disruption... High levels of the hormone estrogen, which occurs before menstruation, leads to the accumulation of fluid in the body, which manifests itself in swelling. Hormonal changes overtaking during puberty, with climax, treatment with hormone-containing drugs can cause edema. Puffiness in the perinatal period is a common thing, but if it is constant, it is better to consult with an observing doctor about this, as this may indicate internal pathologies.
An allergic reaction often manifests itself as swelling of the upper eyelids, but there are cases of swelling in the lower ones. Therefore, if such a problem overtakes suddenly, do not overlook this factor as possible. Often, in addition to edema, allergies are expressed in additional symptoms - nasal congestion, teary eyes, sneezing, etc.
If, in addition to puffiness, high fever, malaise, a feeling of heat, discomfort when pressing on a swollen place is worried, this may indicate an incipient inflammatory process. With constant edema of the eyelids, which do not go away for a long time, it is better to consult a doctor, this may be a signal of a malfunction in the body: processes in the kidneys of a pathological nature, diseases of the thyroid gland, blood vessels, heart, etc.
Other causes of edema

Never sleep with makeup on, or better yet, wash off makeup a few hours before bed so that your skin can breathe and rest. For makeup remover, use special formulations that match your dermis type. Choose care cosmetics carefully, so, for example, if a night cream is not suitable for you, it can form a film on the skin, which provokes moisture retention and, as a result, puffiness.

- Tears. If you cried well in the evening, then you should not be surprised at morning edema. Such a widespread phenomenon does not spare anyone, but it is very simple to explain. There is a lot of salt in the lacrimal fluid, which inhibits the release of intercellular fluid.
- Stormy nightlife. Those who like to have good fun at night are at risk. In this case, puffiness under the eyes can be caused by a whole "train" of reasons: alcohol abuse, excess of sweet and salty, drugs, lack of rest and sleep, etc.
