Eustoma: planting and care
The homeland of the eustoma, or as it is also called the "Irish rose", is the southern part of North America. According to legend, the flower first appeared on the grave of a young Indian woman killed by the spirit of war for refusing to become his wife. This plant is grown for cutting or as an indoor species.
Planting eustoma
Garden plant planted with seeds... To do this, they are first sown for seedlings in the middle of winter, then in the middle of summer you can already get a flowering plant. Seeds are sown in 3 or 5 pieces in ordinary plastic cups filled with soil for violets. Then the landing is covered with a film. After 10 days, the film is removed to remove condensation and to give the seedlings oxygen. After 2 weeks, seedlings hatch at a temperature of +20 degrees. From that moment on, the seedlings should be additionally highlighted for 2 months. At the end of winter, the seedlings must be moved to a well-lit windowsill.
Then it is necessary to spray the plant with a solution from the foundation in order to prevent diseases. When 2 leaves appear on the seedlings, they need to be dived into other containers, immersed in the soil to the level of the lower leaves. After that, watered and covered with plastic bags so that they take root well. When the plant doubles in size, they must be transplanted into larger pots, transshipping together with the earth lump.
Eustoma bushes can be moved into the ground in May, after the final establishment of heat. A well-lit place with drained soil, fenced off from the winds, is suitable for this. Transplant the eustoma at dusk or when there is no direct light. Place the bushes at a distance of up to 15 cm, after planting with a jar or cut plastic bottle for 2 or 3 weeks. There is no need to water the plants during this period.
Eustoma at home
A place with good illumination and high humidity is suitable for a flower in an apartment. It is best to place the pots on the east or west side. Pot fill with a special soil mixture for perennials, after laying a drainage layer. Do not take a container that is too large, for a start, a pot with a diameter of up to 16 cm will be enough. Then the plant can be transplanted into a larger container if necessary.
Eustomas reproduce only by seeds. It is most convenient to germinate them in special peat tablets:
- Place the tablet in a plastic cup and sprinkle with water.
- Now put a few seeds on top and deepen it a little using a toothpick.
- Spray one more time with water, followed by a weak solution of potassium permanganate.
- Cover with plastic wrap to create a greenhouse environment.
Periodically remove the film and ventilate the plants, while removing the settled condensation. Sprinkle with water occasionally to keep the tablet from drying out. When 5 leaves appear, the seedlings can be planted together with the tablet in a permanent place. After transplanting, place the pots on a sunny side to help the plant grow faster.
Eustoma care
It is imperative to produce top dressing plants with diluted mullein or bird droppings, also previously diluted. You can apply special fertilizers used for flowering plants.
For eustoma, a weak watering although it can easily endure drought. If you keep the plant in a pot, then do not allow the soil to dry out - this can destroy the eustoma. Water the bushes after the surface layer dries. Gently pour the water under the root without touching the foliage. It is not necessary to spray eustoma, this can cause fungal diseases in the flower.
At home, keep eustoma in the summer at temperatures up to +25 degrees. In winter, to create dormant conditions, the temperature drops to +12 degrees.
