How to grow indoor roses
A rose is an ornamental plant that belongs to the rosehip or rosaceae family. Not all varieties of roses are suitable for growing at home, but only dwarf varieties. This is due to the fact that ordinary varieties have a rather large and long root system, and not a single container for growing flowers at home can withstand this.

Planting an indoor rose
When planting indoor roses, it is advisable to use only a soil mixture and not peat. Before planting, drainage is placed at the bottom of the pot, the height of which should not exceed one centimeter. Soil is placed on top of the drainage, then fertilizer, and soil on top without any impurities. The plant in the container should be watered generously and left for a while.
Planting the plant in the ground should be done very carefully, trying not to damage the roots. It is advisable to place the pot with the plant in a bright place. You need to water the rose as it dries, but be careful that the soil is not too moist.
How to care for indoor roses?
Basic care for indoor roses - these are regular feedings that need to be done at least once every two weeks. As a top dressing, Agricola-7 is a very effective fertilizer for indoor roses. This fertilizer promotes plant growth and leaf formation. In the middle of summer, and in particular at the end of July, feeding must be stopped, otherwise the rose will not stop growing and will not be able to rest properly in the winter.
The rose must be kept in a very bright and well-ventilated room, because starting in spring the plant needs to be provided with constant fresh air. In summer, it is advisable to take the plant out onto the balcony.
Proper watering in caring for indoor roses plays no less important role than fertilizing, since improper watering can cause problems with the growth and flowering of the plant. Watering should be increased gradually, not all at once. Whether or not it is worth increasing the amount of water can be judged by the appearance of new leaves, and it is important to adhere to the principle - it is better not to add than to overfill.
Transplanting an indoor rose
To transplant an indoor rose, you need to take a container slightly larger than the previous one. However, it is worth remembering that in a container that is too large, the plant will not be able to grow as it should and over time this will begin to affect its flowering.
Before removing the rose from the old pot, you must first water the flower generously and leave it like that for 20-25 minutes. Meanwhile, the bottom of the new pot is covered with drainage. After the designated period, the old pot is slightly tilted and the plant is carefully removed from it, and then placed in a new pot and covered with earth on all sides.
The plant should not be watered immediately after transplantation, but it is best to place it in a shaded area; you can spray a little water from a spray bottle on the leaves of the flower. To prevent the plant from overheating during the hottest part of the day, it is advisable to place the rose pot in a pan of water.
Indoor rose in winter
With the onset of cold weather, a period of dormancy begins for indoor roses; at this time, the plant, which actively bloomed in the summer, stops blooming and sheds its leaves. This period lasts from the end of November to the end of March. Many people mistakenly believe that the flower is dead and try to get rid of it as quickly as possible.
There should be no drafts in the room in which the plant is located, but it is also worth considering the fact that without fresh air the plant will die, so it must be taken out to a balcony or glassed-in loggia.
If the air temperature drops to 0 degrees Celsius or lower, then you need to take some measures to prevent the plant from frostbite. To do this, you first need to cover the soil in the flowerpot; this can be done with the help of leaves or pine branches. The pot in which the flower is planted should also be insulated by wrapping it in a blanket or something warm. It is advisable to water the plant no more than three times a week.
After the indoor rose has shed all its leaves, it is advisable to prune it. This procedure promotes its growth and flowering in the spring.
At the end of February, the plant can be moved to a warmer and brighter place. After removing the mulch, it is advisable to treat the plant’s soil with some kind of disinfectant, since the leaves and needles may contain fungal microorganisms. You can purchase this product in specialized flower shops.
Why do the leaves of indoor roses turn yellow?
Leaves may turn yellow for the following reasons:
- Very often, the natural aging of a rose is confused with some kind of disease. This is due to the fact that the aging of a plant and the onset of a disease are similar. The rose begins to turn yellow from the lower leaves, gradually small black spots begin to appear on them, which after a while grow, as a result of which the leaves begin to dry out and fall off. By looking closely, you can easily determine whether the rose is sick or whether the leaves have begun to fall out as a result of the natural aging of the plant - if there are a lot of leaves, then the plant needs to be treated urgently, but if there are few leaves, then nothing threatens it.
- Another reason why rose leaves may turn yellow and dry out is pests that have attacked the root system of the plant.
- In an overly moistened plant, the leaves begin to wither and dry out gradually. Indoor roses love moisture, but in moderation, so it is important not to overwater it. In addition, the plant must not be allowed to dry out - it is necessary to find a middle ground.
- Often rose leaves dry out due to a deficiency of mineral fertilizers, such as iron, manganese, nitrogen and potassium.
Why does indoor rose dry out?
The soil is too dense. Very often, when planting or replanting a flower, inexperienced gardeners make the soil too dense. As a result, oxygen cannot reach the root system of the plant in sufficient quantities, and it begins to wither and dry out.
- Root system rotting. This occurs quite often as a result of overwatering the plant.
- Parasites. Various kinds of pests are a common reason why roses begin to dry out. Pests in most cases settle in the root system of the plant.
- The indoor rose is a plant that requires constant care. However, if all the necessary procedures are carried out correctly, then the flower will be able to delight its owners with healthy growth and flowering for many years.
