Home Health Pregnancy Fertile days: what are they and why are they needed

Many women have heard about the existence of such a definition as "fertile days". But not all of them fully understand what this term means. Meanwhile, knowledge of this concept is very important for planning pregnancy.

Fertile days, what does it mean

Any woman has periods when her body is most prepared for the onset of pregnancy. This period is considered fertile days. At this time, the possibility of conception reaches its peak. Usually, this time starts a few days before ovulation dates... And the most successful moment for conception is the day when the egg is released.

fd3 The explanation for this is very simple: the lifespan of spermatozoa is about three days, in some cases they can remain viable for up to five days. But the duration of the life of a woman's egg does not exceed several hours. In this regard, it is safe to say that the closer to ovulation sexual intercourse has occurred, the more likely a woman will become pregnant.

Get pregnant on fertile days

The entire female cycle can be roughly divided into three periods. In the first period, a process occurs when the egg is just developing in the follicle. The second period is characterized by the fact that the egg is already fully matured, it has left the follicle, and is awaiting fertilization in the fallopian tube. In the third period, a corpus luteum forms in place of the follicle and menstruation begins.

This happens approximately in the middle of the cycle. Taking into account the life of the sperm and the egg and the probability of deviating the date of the onset of ovulation, it can be noted that the days probable for fertilization start from the 10th day of the cycle and end on the 20th day.

Fertile days calendar

How to determine the fertility period? This should be done by the date of ovulation.

To find out the day of ovulation, you can apply several methods:

  • The calendar method is based on the fact that women with a regular cycle, the period of ovulation is approximately in the middle of the cycle. For example, with a 29-day cycle, ovulation will occur on the 14th day from the start of your period. This method is the oldest, but it also gives the largest percentage of errors.
  • Determination of body temperature in the rectum in the morning. This method is based on the fact that the day after ovulation, the body temperature rises slightly. But the reliability of this method is also low.
  • You can determine the date of ovulation using a special home test. This method is quite accurate, it shows a sharp increase in luteinizing hormone in the body. This means that ovulation will occur in the next 1.5 days.
  • Checking vaginal discharge. Before the onset of ovulation, the mucus secreted by the vagina becomes transparent and viscous, similar to the protein of a hen's egg. In this way, you can independently track the onset of ovulation.
