"Like a husband and wife": civil marriage - its pros and cons
The relationship between a man and a woman is very multifaceted. Sooner or later, a moment comes in them when love or affection makes them think about getting married. However, many couples live for years without formalizing their union. Let's try to figure out why this is happening.
Pros of civil marriage
Most often, of course, women want to legitimize the relationship. Men are very shy in this regard, and the decision to tie the knot even with a loved one is not easy for them. However, emancipation also makes itself felt: many women are now independent and energetic, sometimes they earn more than their beloved ones and do not feel flawed at all without the cherished stamp in their passports.
In addition, such a union, which is known as a civil marriage, has certain advantages, it is no coincidence that it is so popular in many developed countries. Partners have the opportunity to get to know each other better, to understand whether they will be able to come to terms with the shortcomings of the other, and whether they need this relationship at all. They say that everyday life can kill love: unfortunately, this often happens. It is no coincidence that many couples who have legalized their relationship break up in the first year or two of their life together.
For a woman, civil marriage is a kind of test of a man's reliability. In such a union, the partners have relative freedom, so it will become clear how much the common-law husband is ready to use this freedom. The woman should understand a man, get used to it and, accordingly, a man must also adapt to such a life.
Finally, the financial side of the issue also plays an important role. When joint farming begins, conflicts often arise because the other half is too wasteful. Civil marriage will show if the lovers are able to find a compromise.
Cons of civil marriage
However, civil marriage also has negative aspects:
- Legal insecurity. In our country, civil marriage is not recognized by the state, all the rights and obligations of partners arise only after state registration.
- Children born in a civil marriage. This is perhaps the most important argument against such an alliance. Unlike Western countries, our institution of marriage is primarily designed to protect a woman. It is she who takes care of the child, so women cannot devote enough time to developing their careers, and accordingly, they usually earn less. In the event of a break with a civil partner, the woman will find herself alone with material problems.

- Another important aspect is the upbringing of children. The child must still be brought up in a complete family, otherwise, over the years, he may develop an inferiority complex. But even if the couple lives together, it is difficult for the baby to explain why his mother is not married to his father. It is even worse if other children find out about it.
Is a civil marriage considered a marriage
From a legal point of view, civil marriage does not give rise to the emergence of rights and obligations between spouses. In the event of a break in relations, a woman is not entitled to receive material support from a civil husband. Nevertheless, children born in such a marriage are protected by the law.
A man who wants to recognize a child must come with his mother to the registry office and confirm paternity. After recognition, the father assumes the responsibility of providing material support for the baby (if the common-law spouses break up, child support will need to be paid for the child). Accordingly, the mother will not have to interfere with their communication, and if she travels with the child abroad, she will have to get the consent of her civil husband.
If the partner refuses the child, the woman can initiate the procedure for establishing paternity through the court. In this case, a genetic examination is carried out, and the irresponsible dad will be obliged to pay material support to the baby.
Of course, every woman dreams of being close to her beloved. You cannot give advice, enter into an official marriage or just live together: each couple must decide for themselves.
