How to get rid of fleas in the house
Most people tend to believe that fleas in the house can only appear because of pets. At the same time, they also believe that it will be enough to treat the pet’s fur with an anti-flea drug and the problem will disappear. But fleas can also appear in an apartment for other reasons.
Where do fleas come from?
These small parasitic insects are less than 5 millimeters in size. Thanks to their spines on their body, they perfectly cling to animal fur and human clothing. They can also settle in the feathers of birds. Due to the special structure of their paws, fleas are able to jump to very high heights, which are several dozen times greater than their own size.
Flea bites cause severe itching, allergies and can cause dangerous viral infections. Therefore, it is necessary to clean your home of this muck in time.
There may be several reasons for the appearance of parasites in an apartment:
- Most often, fleas enter the house on the fur of pets. They accumulate on the animal's face, neck, tail and ears, drink its blood and cause the unfortunate person great anxiety with their bites.
- Another possible reason is dampness in the house. On the lower floors of the house, fleas appear from the basement, where there is usually high humidity. The presence of heating pipes and moisture creates ideal conditions for fleas to reproduce. Insects sneak into apartments from the basement.
- Fleas that live on basement mice and rats enter the house along with these rodents. Their small size allows parasites to settle in baseboards, crevices, carpet pile, furniture and clothing. There they wait for an opportunity to feast on someone's blood.
How to get rid of household fleas
Process destruction fleas must be started with disinfection pets. Buy a special flea treatment suitable for your pet from a veterinary pharmacy. Treat the fur with it, paying special attention to the tail, muzzle, neck and ears.
After this, you need to start cleaning the apartment. Thoroughly wipe all surfaces in the house with a damp cloth, and clean textiles and carpets with a vacuum cleaner. Then hide all the products in containers. If you have aquarium, close it. Now wash all things that can be subjected to this treatment. What cannot be washed, take it outside and warm it up in the sun.

Flea prevention
Preventive measures against fleas are aimed at maintaining cleanliness and order in the apartment. Do wet cleaning regularly, clean carpets and upholstered furniture. Put the plumbing in order, eliminate leaks, and prevent dampness in the toilet area. It is better to add disinfectants to the water for washing floors and other surfaces. You can add wormwood or other herbs with a strong odor to the water. Fleas do not tolerate this aroma. Be sure to ventilate the room; these insects do not like cleanliness in the house.
If you have an animal in the house, then buy him an anti-flea collar. It will not get rid of fleas completely, but it will repel these parasites for a while. Periodically inspect your pet's fur, treat it with special preparations, and wash it with antiparasitic shampoos.
