How to dye a skirt
Dyeing fabrics is a fairly pressing issue of our time. During washing, due to the use of a large number of powders and rinses with chemical components, the fabric begins to fade and lose its color and beauty. Constant exposure to sunlight affects color loss.
The easiest way is to take things to the dry cleaner to be dyed. But usually this results in a very “round” sum. You should know that you can dye the fabric yourself.

How to dye a skirt at home
Before you start painting, you need to consider these factors.
- Fabric composition. It’s great if the fabric is natural, because then you won’t have to worry about the color not taking off. Synthetic fabrics may not be dyed.
- Experience shows that it is best to buy dye that is darker than the original color of the fabric.
- Before you paint things, you need to wash them.
- The whole process is done only with gloves.
- You should always follow the instructions on the label.
So, there are 2 ways to paint things: in a basin and in a washing machine (this is the most popular method).
- First, you need to dilute the paint and pour it into the drum of the washing machine.
- You need to choose the appropriate temperature, but without soaking.
- After things are dyed, they need to be rinsed in a vinegar solution.
- The empty machine needs to be rinsed.
- After this procedure, you do not need to machine wash white items for a while.
How to dye a skirt black
- You need to buy black paint.
- To color skirt, you will need about 300 g of paint.
- The skirt needs to be washed (but do not use fabric softeners).
- The skirt is turned inside out and placed in the drum of the washing machine. The paint is spread over the surface of the skirt and washing begins.
- After the entire procedure, the skirt needs to be dried. And then wash it again at the maximum temperature that suits the fabric of the skirt.
How to dry-clean a skirt
Not all dry cleaners provide this service, but those that are willing to dye items must be responsible for the quality of the work done. First, specify what dyes will be used for painting (usually, this is a fairly expensive and good paint). Dry cleaning should ensure that the paint is fixed to the fabric and protected from subsequent washing out.
Before the procedure, the clothes must go through a washing and processing stage so that the dye adheres to the fabric.
How to dye a skirt red
The principle of coloring is the same as in the second section. Red paint requires careful attention.
- Red paint is diluted in an enamel bowl with only soft water.
- The solution must be filtered through the fabric, so the paint will adhere to the fabric much better.
- If there are brooches or other items on the skirt, they must be removed!
- Wash the skirt and remove all stains.
- Make sure that there are no faded spots on the skirt, otherwise the paint will apply unevenly and the item will simply be ruined.
- After dyeing in the machine, the skirt must be dried and then washed again.
