How to sew a do-it-yourself cosmetic bag

Before you start yourself sewing, you need to decide on the fabric that you will take as the basis of your cosmetic bag. If you want your handbag to be bright and unusual, think about which colors and textures of the fabric are best combined with each other. Stock up on the necessary accessories to decorate your product: it does not have to be metal parts, rhinestones or sequins - parts made with your own hands look much more interesting, for example, from felt, yarn, felt, beads, or even cross stitch.

When choosing a base, think about a lining fabric: a quality item must have a thin but durable lining. And, of course, the fastener: you can sew in a "zipper", make loops for one or several buttons, or buy metal fasteners in a needlework store.

So, you will need:

  • main fabric;
  • lining fabric;
  • Zipper or other fastener;
  • details for decoration;
  • scissors, chalk or a bar of soap and a sewing machine.

  1. Fold both the base and lining fabric into one fold, right side inward, and spread out on a flat surface (table).
  2. Having cut out the pattern suggested above from paper, lay it out on the fabric, secure with safety pins and carefully cut along the contour, leaving 1 cm seam allowances around the edges.For convenience, you can circle the outline of the pattern with chalk or a piece of soap.
  3. Do this with all the details of the pattern. If you took as a basis a material that is too thin and does not hold its shape, then use an iron to glue it with an adhesive cloth (you can buy it at any craft store, it is inexpensive, but it holds well). As a result, you should have the same details from the main and lining fabric.
  4. Connect the bottom to the side of your bag face to face and sew from the wrong side along the entire length on both sides.
  5. Do the same for the lining fabric.
  6. If you have chosen a zipper as your fastener, then it's time to sew it on! This is easier than it seems: zip it completely and for convenience, connect the ends from the bottom and top, lightly stitching them on a typewriter. Place the lock on the sides of your makeup bag, facing inward, and sew to the side pieces. Leave the unfinished corners of the bottom intact for now. By the way, there is one trick here: to make the seam as neat and even as possible, place a sheet of tracing paper under the fabric, then the thread will not "wiggle" from side to side; Sew the tracing paper to the fabric along with the lock and at the end just remove the rest of the paper.
  7. Attach the “purse” from the lining fabric with the right side to the wrong side of the “zipper”, sew in the same way as you sewed it with the main fabric.
  8. Connect the corners - the edges of the bottom - so that the zipper is between the main and lining sides and sew all these 3 parts together on both sides of your bag.
  9. Turn the purse out and put everything you need in it - the cosmetic bag is ready!
