Nervous child: reasons and rules of behavior for parents
The rhythm of modern life, frequent stress and interpersonal conflicts, negatively affect not only adults. Often all this affects children, which is why there are so many nervous and easily excitable children now. However, the child’s behavior needs to be controlled: if severe excitability becomes the norm and even more so turns into aggression, the help of a specialist may be required.
Why is the child nervous?
Excitability in children can manifest itself at different points in life. This largely depends on the child’s character. There are babies who become capricious and disobedient almost from birth, while in others this manifests itself over time. This may be the result of some unpleasant event or stressful situation.
It is important to find out in time the reason for such changes in behavior, otherwise they may negatively affect the entire future life of the baby. Here are the most common reasons for these changes:
- Lack of attention. The baby always wants to feel needed, significant, loved. If for some reason his parents began to devote less time to him, he tries to regain the attention of his father and mother as best he can. You won’t be able to compensate for the lack of communication with expensive toys: sometimes kids start to be even more capricious.
- Child's self-esteem. Self-confidence is important not only for adults; a small person is very susceptible to the opinions of others. Therefore, psychologists advise praising children more often, otherwise they simply will not feel the significance of good deeds.
- Whims out of revenge. Children often become nervous and disobedient when they believe that they have been offended. The mother may immediately forget the unfair words, but the child is very vulnerable and will experience this for a long time. If signs of aggression and disobedience appear, you need to try to understand whether the child is offended. If this is really the case, you should definitely apologize to him.
Particular attention should be paid to children over ten years of age. At this age, they begin to react sharply to unusual situations that arise in life, so it is important to be close to the child and gently correct his behavior.
Nervous child - what to do
If a child is nervous, do not let this situation arise. The baby needs attention and possibly treatment. Also, with severe excitability, it is useful to take B vitamins, which help strengthen the nervous system.
Of course, vitamins alone cannot solve the problem. First of all, we need to find the reason for this condition of the child. It is necessary to talk with the baby, let him understand that he is not alone, that he is loved and will always be supported.
At the same time, you should not indulge your whims. Those parents who overindulge their children are making a mistake. The baby must understand that he cannot get all the attention and learn to take it calmly.
Refusal of something must also be reasoned. You shouldn’t push with authority; you need to calmly explain to the child why you need to do this and not another.
Finally, children need to lead by example. If the parents are nervous and excited, the baby will inevitably copy their behavior. All the stress and hysterics that a child witnesses traumatize his already fragile psyche. If the atmosphere in the house is calm, then you won’t have to worry about the child either.
How to treat a nervous tic in a child
Research shows that tics affect approximately twenty-five percent of children, with the majority being boys. Usually it does not cause any particular harm to health and goes away with age, but the child has a hard time experiencing such manifestations, so the nervous tic needs to be treated.
Sedatives, for example, Novopassit, antipsychotic drugs and drugs that improve blood supply to the brain will help to cope with it. Only a doctor can prescribe them. However, nervous tics can be prevented. To do this, you need to follow simple recommendations:
- the child should be provided with adequate sleep;
- healthy diet is necessary;
- it is necessary to exclude nervous and physical stress;
- A special eyelid massage is very useful for nervous tics.
There are also some folk remedies that will help cope with nervous tics. For example, you can try making a compress of fresh geranium leaves, applying them to the affected area for about an hour. After removing the compress, the sore area should be washed. This should be done about an hour or two before going to bed for a week.
There is a child who has become nervous and agitated, you should not scold and punish him, this will only aggravate the situation. Often this may not be a simple whim, but a sign of a disease such as neurosis. The baby will not be able to cope with the situation on his own; he will need the help of a specialist and, of course, his parents. But the main thing that mom and dad must do is to provide a favorable and comfortable environment in the family, then the disease will have no chance.
