Types of beer
The frothy drink is classified into two main types: lager and ale. They differ in the way they ferment. Ale is made at a temperature of 15-25 degrees, adding top-fermented yeast, the production time from three weeks to four months. It usually tastes lightly fruity, but it also contains a lot of alcohol.
Lager is considered the most popular species in the world. The production is longer and more complicated: the beer wort is boiled, cooled, yeast is poured in and left to ferment for 7 days at a constant temperature. After the yeast is removed, the drink is distilled for fermentation under pressure. At low temperature conditions, fermentation and maturation of the drink occurs, from about three weeks to 4-5 months. The drink is filtered and pasteurized for storage in bottles. Most often, the foamy drink is light, less often it is dark.
Ales include:
- bitter beer Bitter, dry drink with bitterness of different shades from light to brownish;
- Porter, a strong, dark and dense drink with a strong hop flavor;
- Stout, a dark variety with malt and roasted malt;
- Barley Wine, translated wine made from barley, but despite the name it is still a beer of high density and high alcohol content, the color is similar to Garnet, taste for wine.
Lager happens:
- Bock, a German beer of light and dark shades, is strong;
- Rauch, a smoky-flavored beverage produced by roasted beech malt, is ideal for a spicy drink. cheese, barbecue;
- Draft, draft unpasteurized beer;
- Ice Beer, a light drink that has a peculiarity in preparation, is sharply cooled after boiling, removing the ice.
Wheat drink can be distinguished as a separate category. It is known for the fact that the final fermentation takes place in the bottle and the beer is not filtered. Wheat is usually a summer drink and is served cool, while strong dark beers can be served warm.
Another type of drink is called Lambic. Produced in Belgium without yeast. Unsprouted wheat grains and barley malt are used for fermentation. A variety of Lambic is Kriek beer, with the addition of cherries or raspberries.
How to choose a beer
When choosing a beer, they usually just look at the name, price and grab whatever is closer and more beautiful. But when choosing a foamy drink, you still need to follow some rules. To get started, inspect the label by reading the country of manufacture, the composition, looking at the date of the spill and the expiration date. The composition of the drink should contain no more than 3-4 ingredients, most often it is water, hops, yeast and malt, but yeast can be omitted as it is used only in the beginning. The shelf life should be minimal, this will mean that the beer is of good quality and there are no additional preservatives or other harmful ingredients in it.
It is best to buy a drink made in the near future, it will be much fresher. So the bottles on the shelf can stand side by side, and the date of manufacture is different, so it is worth paying attention to this trifle. How beer is stored - beer on warm shelves will not last long, it is best to take it from the refrigerator.
In which container to choose - today, in principle, no difference. It used to be that a dark glass bottle was the best option, because it does not let in sunlight and the beer does not spoil. Now it is better to purchase green or dark bottles in the back rows. An aluminum can does not transmit light at all, but reacts sharply to changes in temperature, which is not very well reflected on the quality of beer.
When choosing beer in bars or shops with a draft drink, pay attention to how the beer kegs are stored. Ask how often and how long have the pipes been cleaned in the taps, in an amicable way they must be cleaned daily. Watch how the bartender pours the drink, how he rinses the glasses.
Good beer leaves a foam on the glass after consumption, and from each sip, a foam strip should remain on the walls of the glass. This indicates a quality and undiluted product.
