History of the Mother's Day holiday

Mother, as the progenitor of everything and everyone, has always been sung and praised since time immemorial. So the Greeks revered Gaia - the mother of all gods. The Romans praised Cybele (analogue of Gaia), the Celtic mother is the same Bridget. So the celebration of Mother's Day has dragged on through the centuries and religions around the world.

In Russia, for the first time, Mother's Day was celebrated in Baku in October 1988. The initiator of this event was the teacher Elmira Huseynova. It was she who first suggested making a celebration dedicated to mothers and holding it at school. This holiday was incredibly successful and popular. Various newspapers and magazines wrote about this event. Then other school institutions began to embody this idea.

However, at the end of 1990, Alevtina Viktorovna Aparina, who is a member of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, chairman of women's affairs, submitted a proposal for consideration, which touched upon the issue of maintaining motherhood in the state and the establishment of a special holiday.

In 1998, by presidential decree, the celebration of Mother's Day was legalized and became an official public holiday.

When mothers day is celebrated

Mother's Day was celebrated annually on the last Sunday of November. And after tens of years, this law-tradition still exists. Every year, all children, regardless of age, congratulate their mothers, even if they are already grandmothers.
