Your own money tree
The famous money tree, or simply Crassula, is a very easy-to-care plant. Its popularity among the people is associated with the sign that the fat woman attracts money for its owner. For a tree to bring you financial well-being, it must also feel good in your home.

How to plant a money tree
Grow Crassula is very easy; even a novice gardener can cope with this task. You can plant a money tree with a shoot or a leaf. In this case, you can initially hold the shoot a little in water so that it takes root, but you can skip this step.
Think carefully about what size pot to choose, because the plant grows in size very quickly. A thick and massive crown is formed in a short time. Sometimes even a very developed root system of a plant cannot hold it. Therefore, choose a heavy and deep pot that holds a large volume so that the quickly growing plant feels comfortable in it.
Once the pot has been selected, place a layer on its bottom drainage. These could be stones, broken bricks, pebbles or any other. Pour soil over the drainage and make a hole in it to plant the shoot. For a money tree, loose soil containing a lot of sand is suitable. It is best to purchase soil suitable for cacti or succulents. If you wish, you can mix the soil yourself. To do this, take 2 parts of leaf soil and peat and 3 parts of sand. After planting, be sure to water the plant thoroughly.
How to care for a money tree
Caring for this plant is very simple. In summer it requires very abundant watering. But at the same time, there is no need to fill it. It is enough to water the fat plant two or three times a week. While the plant is at rest, watering should be reduced to once every two months. Don’t be surprised, but the ground should be dry during this period.
There is no need to spray the plant. It is enough just to wipe the leaves from dust, which really likes to accumulate on the fat plant. There is no need to create humid air in the room, but the money tree needs ventilation. The temperature should be about 22 degrees in summer, and in winter the fat plant needs coolness - just reduce the temperature to 12 degrees.
The money tree needs good lighting. But at the same time, do not leave the plant under directly falling rays - it can “burn.”
Money Tree Fertilizer
As a top dressing it is necessary to use fertilizers and mixtures suitable for cacti or succulents. The fertilizing period begins in March and ends in September. Do not fertilize the plant more than once a week. The purpose of fertilizing is to replenish the natural loss of minerals, which are partly washed out by water and partly absorbed by the plant.
A low percentage of nitrogen in the fertilizer is important for the money tree. After all, its excess leads to rotting of the roots. It is best to choose fertilizers that contain four parts potassium, two parts phosphorus and one part nitrogen.
The following fertilizers are excellent for fat plants:
- Helium.
- Lignohumate.
- Effecton DC.
- Humisol GUMI.
- Uniflor cactus.
Money tree propagation
There are several ways to propagate the Crassula. You can propagate it by cuttings. Simply plant the cutting in the pot using the above method. You don’t even have to wait for the plant’s roots to appear. Immediately after planting, cover the plant with a jar to create greenhouse conditions. Twice a day, remove the jar and ventilate the plant. When the fat plant is completely rooted, the jar can be removed.
If you were unable to get a cutting, then a leaf will suffice. It must be placed in a glass with boiled water and a small amount of charcoal. Leave the leaf in the shade and change the water every couple of days to prevent it from rotting. When the roots that have appeared are clearly visible, the leaf can be planted in the ground.
How to replant a money tree
This plant is not one of those that welcome frequent transplants. Therefore, despite its active growth, it can be replanted no more than once a year. The ideal time for this manipulation is the beginning of May. It is better to choose a massive and wide pot with good stability.
Don't forget to choose a suitable pot and place drainage on the bottom. After drainage, fill the pot a quarter full of soil. Grab the money tree by the trunk and pull it out of the old pot. Shake it lightly to release some soil. Place the plant in the pot and fill it with soil. Do not compact the soil; it is better to add more soil later. Water the plant well after transplanting. In the future, do not forget to loosen the soil so that air flows to the roots.
