Pelvic birth
Usually, by the time of birth, the baby turns head down - this position is considered correct. But this doesn't always happen. In some cases, the baby is positioned with his butt or legs down; this position is called pelvic. Childbirth in this case is associated with great risk.
Childbirth with breech presentation
The location, called the pelvic one, causes considerable concern on the part of the pregnant woman. Childbirth in this case can be complex and requires great skill from medical personnel. In some cases, emergency surgery may even be required.
Until the 35th week of pregnancy, there is still a small chance that the baby will roll over and take a normal position. To determine this accurately, a special study is carried out. The expectant mother is examined by an obstetrician and determines how the baby is positioned. Ultrasound shows a more accurate result. The baby's condition is also examined.
Previously, in the case of such malpresentation, the baby was born naturally. Now doctors are increasingly leaning towards cesarean section. Approximately 80% of women with this position of the fetus are sent for surgery. This is due to the fact that now more and more women are giving birth at an older age, which in itself complicates childbirth and causes certain risks. In addition, medicine is improving every year. The operation itself is becoming more and more safe, new diagnostic techniques are being developed that allow risks and possible complications to be assessed in advance.
In cases where, in the presence of breech presentation, one chooses caesarean section, include:
- Male child.
- Premature birth.
- The child lies with his legs, not his butt.
- The woman's pelvis is not wide enough.
- During childbirth, strong extension of the head is possible.
- The child weighs too little or too much.
- The baby's umbilical cord is entwined.
- Chronic form of hypoxia.
If doctors decide that childbirth will take place naturally, then the woman must strictly follow the instructions of the staff so that difficult childbirth passed safely. In general, everything awaits her the same as during a normal birth, but with some features.
At the stage of cervical dilatation, the woman lies on her side in the direction where the baby’s back is. This is necessary to avoid serious complications.
At the stage of expulsion of the fetus, the order of birth of the baby is as follows: first, the baby develops a butt and a body up to the waist, then it comes out to the shoulder blades, then the shoulders and arms are born, and the head appears last. As a rule, at this time the woman is given cuts on the perineum to reduce the risk of birth injuries when the baby's head comes out. After the baby is born up to the navel, childbirth should be completed in 10 minutes. Such a short time is allotted to ensure that he does not die from hypoxia, because at this moment the umbilical cord is pinched by the head. To stimulate pushing, a woman can be given oxytocin, and to prevent cervical spasm, papaverine and no-shpa are administered.
During the postpartum stage, the placenta separates. This period is no different from normal childbirth. Here doctors monitor the woman’s condition, check her pulse and the amount of blood discharge from the uterus. Since the risk of bleeding is high, medications that accelerate uterine contractions are used.
Pelvic birth: reviews
For all women, childbirth, even in breech presentation, proceeds differently. Many, despite this diagnosis, give birth easily, even easier than during normal childbirth. But there are also many stories where a child is born with injuries that take a long time to heal and which could have been avoided with a caesarean section. Here everything depends on the qualifications of the medical personnel, on the correctness of the decisions made.
