Home Family and home Children A child has a rash on his back: causes and treatment

A rash on the back in children is a phenomenon that occurs quite often at a young age. A rash is not always an alarming symptom indicating the development of a serious disease. However, this problem cannot be ignored. You need to know where these rashes on the back come from and what to do about it.

Fever and rash on the back of a child

In a child, a small rash on the back does not cause much discomfort. There is usually no pain from it, although in some cases the back may itch. Most often, rashes are caused by the following reasons:

  • Allergic reaction for something from food, for dust or certain materials from which children's clothing is made.
  • Dermatological diseases.
  • Prickly heat. It occurs in children under one year of age and is usually accompanied by fever.

  • The presence of viral infections in the body. The most common of these is chickenpox.
  • Sometimes a rash appears even after a massage. Since babies have very delicate skin, it is recommended that they massage without using oils or other products that can cause irritation. If they are used, sometimes blisters and itching occur.

If the rash is accompanied by a high temperature, an allergy can most likely be ruled out. The temperature rises with the development of diseases such as measles, scarlet fever or chicken pox. With prickly heat, it can also rise to 37-38°C.

Small rash on back

You can try to determine the cause of the disease by the nature of the rash. If the rash is very small and pinkish, it is most likely prickly heat. Such rashes are considered the most harmless of all types. In addition to the back, they can appear on the forehead, neck and chest. This happens often, because caring mothers and grandmothers strive to wrap the baby as warmly as possible. Another reason is insufficient hygiene when caring for babies.

The heat rash does not pose a threat to the baby's health and is not contagious. If it appears, the baby must be bathed with soap, dried thoroughly, and then changed into dry and clean underwear. In order not to cause inconvenience to the baby, it is worth making sure that the temperature in his room is normal and that he is dressed appropriately for the weather. Both cooling and overheating must be avoided.

Sometimes the appearance of a small rash is caused by chickenpox. You can recognize it by small bubbles with clear liquid. Chickenpox is easy to catch, but it may not show itself for a long time. Sometimes rashes appear two to three weeks after infection. These blisters must be constantly lubricated with brilliant green and a solution of potassium permanganate until the disease recedes.

A small red rash can also appear with a disease such as scarlet fever. The appearance of other signs will help to recognize it. This is not only an increase in temperature, but also nausea, vomiting, and redness of the tonsils. A few days before these pronounced signs appear, the child may have a headache. The skin with scarlet fever becomes dry, rough and almost completely red.

This disease is contagious and spreads quite quickly. In this case, the baby can become infected not only during contact with another person, but also, for example, through toys that the sick child played with. Therefore, in cases where someone from the baby’s environment gets sick, you should be on alert for one to two weeks. The only good news is that scarlet fever, like chickenpox, only affects a person once in a lifetime.

How to treat a rash on a child's back

If the rash is caused by some allergen, Panthenol is often used, which can also be used for prevention. A good remedy that helps with exacerbation of allergies is sea buckthorn oil.

When the cause of the rash is an inflammatory process occurring in the child’s body, ointments containing zinc oxide can help. These include drugs such as Atoderm or Desitin.

Treatment for a rash on the back can only be prescribed by a doctor, who first determines the cause of the problem. While the diagnosis has not yet been made, it is better to call a specialist at home so that the child does not have contact with other children. After examination and, if necessary, tests, a course of therapy is selected.

The appearance of a rash on a child’s back is a symptom, when it appears you should not panic. If you immediately call a doctor and carry out treatment under his supervision, the rash will no longer bother you.
