Home Sănătate Inflammation of the appendages: symptoms and treatment

The process of inflammation that develops in a woman’s appendages is called adnexitis. It also captures fallopian tubes. These organs are interconnected. Therefore, inflammation that develops in one of the organs will most likely affect the second.

Causes of inflammation of the appendages

Normally, a healthy woman does not have any flora in her appendages. This means that the appendages are completely sterile organs. If any organisms are found in these organs, then they got there from nearby organs. The appendages become inflamed in a woman under the influence of pathogenic and opportunistic viruses and bacteria.

The most dangerous inflammation occurs under the influence of pathogenic microbes. These include gonococci, which are the causative agent of gonorrhea. This serious and dangerous venereal disease can provoke dangerous complications.

n3 Other pathogenic microorganisms that cause severe adnexitis include:

  • Chlamydia.
  • Trichomonas.
  • Mycoplasmas.

If you do not seek help in a timely manner, these microorganisms can provoke severe forms of complications, the most serious of which is considered infertility.

Other representatives of the flora that cause inflammation of the appendages include microorganisms that live in varying quantities in the vagina of any woman - these are Escherichia coli, streptococci and staphylococci. Under favorable circumstances, they acquire the ability to cause inflammation.

However, the mere presence of pathogenic microflora in the body is not enough to trigger inflammation. Some kind of impetus is needed for its development. Such a driving factor can be a variety of medical procedures, endocrine diseases, pregnancy, stress, exacerbation of chronic diseases of an infectious nature, disruption of the microflora in the intestines and other situations.

Chronic inflammation of the appendages

If adnexitis is untimely or incompletely treated, it most often turns into a chronic form of inflammation. The nature of this disease is long-lasting and wave-like. The disease is similar to the acute form, but all the signs are not so bright and may either disappear completely or appear again.

Such a sluggish form, however, is considered more dangerous than the acute form, since it often leads to irreversible consequences in the form of infertility. The infection that causes this form of inflammation can enter a woman’s body through the blood, through the genitals or through the lymph.

Symptoms of inflammation of the appendages

Depending on the nature of the disease, symptoms vary. But the main and very first symptom is high temperature and severe pain in the lower region belly. In this case, pain may occur in the lumbar region or in the legs.

At an early stage, it is very difficult to correctly diagnose the disease on your own, since the symptoms point to another area. Typically, women begin to suspect something is wrong when they notice suspicious vaginal discharge or bleeding.

n2 Discharges characteristic of inflammation of the appendages differ from normal ones only in their color. They may be white, yellowish or purulent green. It is useful to pay attention to basal temperature with such symptoms. It can increase sharply or, on the contrary, decrease. Such changes are abrupt.

These symptoms appear in the chronic form of the disease. If the discharge does not deviate from the norm in any way, which is rare, but still happens, it is almost impossible to accurately diagnose the disease without additional examination. In this case, it is more reasonable to conduct clinical studies to accurately determine the disease. A routine blood test will help accurately diagnose the disease.

Treatment of appendages

You should not prescribe treatment for yourself. This should only be done by a specialist. Before this, all tests are carried out aimed at identifying the causative agent of the disease. After this, treatment is prescribed.

A course of antibiotics is usually used. Now there is a fairly wide selection of modern drugs that can destroy the disease in a short time and are not addictive.

To increase the level of resistance of the body, drugs are used to strengthen the immune defense. And to prevent an allergic reaction to potent drugs, antihistamines are prescribed. In combination with these drugs, drugs for local action are prescribed. This could be vaginal suppositories, douching with decoctions of medicinal herbs.

If necessary, in some cases, physiotherapy is prescribed - electrophoresis, ultrasound or laser treatment. Mud baths and baths with mineral water at a certain temperature give good results.
