What to give a child for a toothache
Most often, a child's teeth begin to ache due to caries, gumboil or eruption of molars. In this case, the easiest way is to seek help from a doctor. Until help is provided, a pain reliever can be given to the child. What painkillers can be given to children to relieve toothache?
First of all, such a remedy should be safe for the child's body and act quickly enough. After all, small children cannot stand pain.
You can relieve pain with a special gel. Such drugs are applied to the gums and teeth. They relieve the pain symptom to some extent, but they cannot cope with severe acute pain. The effect of using such a gel lasts no more than half an hour:
- The special consistency and structure of Cholisal-gel allows it to stay on the gums for some time. It has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and analgesic effects.
- Calgel contains lidocaine and an antiseptic, it acts instantly.
- Kamistad also acts quickly enough, it penetrates deep into the gums and relieves swelling and pain.
Toothache in a child - how to relieve
If you do not have an immediate opportunity to visit the dental office, then try to help your child with folk remedies. First of all, examine the baby's mouth, perhaps a piece of food or a bone is stuck between his teeth. Use a small flashlight for a better view. Try to remove the foreign object with tweezers or dental floss.
Invite your baby to rinse out his mouth with a mild saline and soda solution. Take water for such a solution at room temperature. Rinsing should continue for at least a minute and be repeated every two hours. This procedure will be effective for gum inflammation or cracks in the tooth enamel.
If the cause of painful sensations is caries, then apply a cotton swab moistened with mint oil. You should not apply analgesics to a sore tooth. It is forbidden to give them to children under 12 years old. A child over four years of age can be given panadol or paracetamol to relieve toothache.
Try not to disturb the aching tooth: do not give your child cold or too hot water and solid food. Do not heat a sore tooth in any way. This procedure will only increase pain and inflammation.
The task of the parents is to get the child to the dentist as soon as possible, and before that time try to distract the child from the pain. You can play with him or turn on his favorite cartoon, keep him busy.
Temperature for toothache
If, against the background of a toothache, the child's temperature rises, this is a reason to immediately consult a dentist. Usually, this symptom indicates the presence of inflammation. The child may develop a flux, abscess, or other pathological processes. Sometimes a fever together with a toothache can be a sign of the development of sinusitis or inflammation of the trigeminal nerve. Often, teething is accompanied by temperature.
In this case, the child should be given anti-inflammatory drugs. They have a complex effect and the effect of taking them lasts long enough. Best of all, the child will be helped by the temperature and toothache with the drugs Paracetamol or Ibuprofen. They are very effective in all these cases.
In addition to these two drugs, you can also give their analogues - Bofen, Panadol or Nurofen. They are produced in dosages for adults and children. They should be given to young children in the form of suppositories or syrup. Older children can be given medication in pills. It should be borne in mind that if the toothache is not accompanied by a high temperature, then there is no need to use these drugs.
After the first symptoms and pain have been removed, do not leave the disease on its own. Be sure to show your child to a specialist. The easiest way to cure dental problems is at the very beginning of the disease, before they develop into something more serious.
