DIY beaded brooch
According to legend, Phoenician merchants, carrying natural soda from Africa across the Mediterranean Sea, landed for the night and began to cook food on a fire. Not having a single stone nearby, they did not think of anything better than sprinkling a little soda around the fire, and in the morning they marveled, passing from hand to hand a transparent stone of extraordinary beauty. This is how glass appeared, from which they subsequently began to make beads of various sizes, even the smallest - beads, from the Arabic "busra" - "fake pearls".
Nowadays, there are many varieties of beads, differing from each other in shapes, colors and sizes. Beading is quite popular: someone is content with small decorative elements made of beads, while someone manages to create whole masterpieces from it and even paintings and mosaics.
Of course, we take into account that most of you do not often weave from beads, therefore we offer the most simple options for brooches, but no less interesting from this.
- Draw a life-size outline of your brooch on paper - this will be your pattern.
- Take a small piece of non-woven or similar non-woven material (for example, it is often used in packaging flower bouquets) and trace your template on it with a ballpoint pen or marker.
- Glue a piece of non-woven fabric onto a solid base, such as a piece of felt, without cutting out the outline. Ideally, the color of this base should match the color of the beads.
- Embroider the outline of the brooch with beads, putting 2-3 beads on the needle with a stalk stitch. Try to attach the beads to each other as tightly as possible so that there are no gaps between the beads.
- If you want the brooch to turn out to be voluminous, then on some elements inside you can glue or sew an additional "floor" of felt and embroider already on it.
- Fill the felt tightly with beads so that the base is not visible. To work out the edges, you can use smaller beads of the same color.
- Carefully cut your brooch along the contour without damaging the threads.
- Take a piece of regular cardboard or heavy paper and trace around your brooch. After stepping back a couple of millimeters from the edge, repeat the outline drawing inside this template and cut along it. You should have a slightly smaller pattern for your brooch. Glue it to the back of your embroidery.
- Glue the brooch pin.
- Glue a piece of leather on top of the cardboard (you can use faux leatherette), making small slots for the pin in it.
- Cut the leather along the contour of the brooch, leaving a couple of mm for the hem.
- Sew the leather along the contour of the brooch, closing the felt with a "closing" seam.
In this way, you can embroider a brooch of any shape with beads. The more types and sizes of beads you use in your work, the more interesting the finished product will be.
DIY fabric brooch
It is not for nothing that real needlewomen always follow the phrase "it will come in handy on the farm": from unnecessary scraps of fabric, you can create a unique, elegant and stylish decoration combining textures, colors and sizes.
The principle of making brooches from fabric is the same as when using beads: the necessary details are sewn or carefully glued onto a dense base, decorated with beads or ribbons, leather, wood, or whatever! And on the reverse side, a carbschon is attached to a thick cardboard, a special pin for a brooch, which is hidden from prying eyes behind a piece of artificial leather.
A brooch made of fabric can look more voluminous than a brooch made of beads, because some elements can be attached to the base only on one side, for example, like the wings of this butterfly.
By the way, an interesting and unusual idea would be to fold the thin fabric according to the principle of origami paper figures and fix the edges so that they do not unfold. Of course, natural fabrics that keep their shape well are more suitable for such decoration.
The fabric also looks good, the edges of which crocheted.
DIY satin ribbon brooch
Bright, variegated, multi-colored ... Nowadays, it is rare to find a girl with ribbons woven into braids, young mothers due to the eternal lack of time, they have long preferred to buy ready-made bows with an elastic band for their children. But remember our childhood - how beautiful, fascinating were the ribbons made of organza and satin! .. Let their use is not quite the same as before, but there will certainly be a place in needlework and such ribbons. For example, for sewing a fashionable brooch on the lapel of a formal jacket to slightly dilute your everyday business look.
The principle of sewing is the same as when making a brooch from other materials described above, only, unlike using patches, you can not only sew from a ribbon, but also embroider small miniatures on material that you can take as a basis as in the case with a brooch made of beads.
DIY felt brooch
If in the previous versions we used felt as the basis for the brooch, then why not leave it as an independent material? In addition, felt is almost a favorite material among needlewomen - it folds easily, keeps its shape well, does not crumble, which allows even leaving the edges of the product untreated.
In addition, felt looks quite unusual and goes well with the simplest details, such as coarse twine and a large seam.
DIY leather brooches
Leather is a stylish material, it is unlikely that it will ever go out of fashion. In addition, leather products are durable, and when they acquire a slight wear from time to time, they only become more attractive.
If artificial leather can be used as a fabric (after all, it can be both very dense and thin, it is very easy to fold this), then the edges of pieces of natural leather can simply be burned with a lighter: they will acquire not only a neat look, but also a beautiful shade. Make decorative elements and connect them together using regular super glue, attaching the finished brooch to the base with a pin.
Leather, like felt, is very beautifully combined with natural materials: rough fabric, burlap, wood and even acorns. Isn't it an idea for a new brooch?
