Children's enuresis: causes and treatment
Disorders of the process of urination have been known since ancient times. The onset of the disease can be considered when a child, after reaching the age of 5, continues to walk in his pants and wakes up wet at night. In this article, we will consider the causes of enuresis and how to treat it.
Causes of bedwetting
Enuresis can cause significant psychological trauma to the child if not taken action in time. In the kindergarten, children can make fun of this fact, and educators scold and punish. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the causes of this disease, because the child himself is not comfortable and ashamed of what is happening.
Possible causes of bedwetting:
- complicated pregnancy and childbirth;
- immature nervous system;
- hyperactivity and overexcitation;
- dysfunction of the bladder or its small volume;
- infections of the genitourinary system or colds ARVI;
- kidney or endocrine system problems;
- genetic inheritance;
- depression;
- stressful situation;
- global changes (change of kindergarten, school, birth of a brother or sister);
- irregular schedule of the daily routine.
If you have noted at least one reason for the problem, then immediately contact your doctor.
Treatment of bedwetting
First, see your pediatrician. He will write out a referral for analyzes and refer to narrow specialists:
- neurologist;
- urologist;
- psychiatrist or psychologist.
Don't be afraid to see a psychiatrist. This does not mean that your child has psychological problems. The doctor must understand what is the cause of the disease. If trauma has occurred, it is in your best interest to visit a psychologist and root out the problem.
The urologist assigns studies:
- Ultrasound of the kidneys.
- Ultrasound of the urinary tract.
- Studies of the daily volume of urine.
- Frequency of visits to the toilet or pot.
Only after a complete examination and comprehensive research, the doctor prescribes therapy. Mainly used drugs and procedures such as acupuncture, electrophoresis, hypnosis, psychotherapy and laser therapy.
You cannot try to cure enuresis on your own.
It is also forbidden to use folk remedies. Exceptions are doctor's recommendations.
Only a competent specialist can solve the problem with bedwetting.
Prevention of bedwetting
Every parent wants his child to be healthy and this requires preventive measures:
- Timely weaning from diapers. Children over two years of age must learn to be neat.
- Control over the amount of fluid consumed. Drink plenty of fluids 3-4 hours before bedtime.
- Tell and show about the rules of caring for the genitals.
- Avoid shock or stressful situations.
- Night awakenings. At the same time plant the child on the potty. Be sure to wake up the baby, as in a half-asleep state he will not understand what you want from him. Over time, the child will learn to wake up from the urge to go to the toilet.
- Limit consumption of diuretic foods (watermelon, melon, apricot, cherry, etc.).
Treating bedwetting requires a lot of patience. Remember that this disease is curable and the urination process can be learned to control. The main thing is not to scold the kid for an unpleasant incident. Surround him with care, warmth and love.
