Home Health Snoring: causes and treatment

We all have experienced snoring at least once in our lives. And even if you do not have such a disadvantage, then in your family or on a trip or on vacation you will definitely encounter at least one snorer. This seemingly harmless deficiency can actually cause serious problems for both the snorer and those around him.

Causes of snoring

In fact, the reason for snoring during sleep is the special structure of the respiratory organs. During sleep, the entire human body is relaxed, including the soft palate and uvula. In this relaxed state, vibration begins, the sound of which is amplified in the oral cavity, like in a resonator.

Snoring in itself does not pose any particular danger to humans. Even small pauses in breathing that may occur in a snorer's sleep will not cause him much harm. But at the same time, snoring brings other problems. Scientists in some countries believe that constant snoring can reduce the number of gray cells in the brain matter. This in turn leads to gradual mental degradation.

x3 In addition, people who stop breathing while snoring are more likely to suffer from heart disease, they are more likely to have a stroke or heart attack, and they may even die in their sleep. This happens because the walls of the respiratory tract do not just vibrate, as with snoring, but completely close and air cannot penetrate into the lungs.

x2 In addition to the structural features of the respiratory organs, other disorders can lead to snoring:

  • Deviation of the nasal septum.
  • Narrowed nasal passages.
  • Nasal polyps.
  • The uvula is too long.
  • Bite disorders.
  • Large tonsils.
  • Obesity.
  • Alcohol abuse.
  • Aging of the body.

How to treat snoring

There are several ways to cure snoring. The most effective treatment methods are surgical. The doctor performs plastic surgery to change the soft tissues of the palate. This procedure can be performed in the classical way, that is, using a scalpel. But you can take a more modern route and use a laser beam or chemicals instead of a scalpel. Nowadays, more and more patients prefer laser surgery.

x6 In addition to surgical intervention, you can try to correct the situation with the help of special breathing exercises and pharmacological medications that reduce the incidence of snoring.
