In this case, there is no unpleasant odor that distinguishes amniotic fluid from urine. They have a slightly sweet aroma, similar to the aroma of steamed milk.

Green or black staining of amniotic fluid indicates the presence of traces of meconium in them. If the amniotic fluid is reddish, then there are traces of blood in it, which most likely indicates that there is a placental abruption.

How long does it take to give birth, if the water has departed

When the amniotic water is poured out, a woman needs to urgently come to the maternity hospital or hospital. The reason for such a rush is simple - an urgent need to assess the condition fetus and the woman herself. The doctor will conduct an examination and conclude about the onset of labor and the condition of the baby. Indeed, sometimes a woman may simply not feel the contractions that have begun. In rare cases, with the outflow of amniotic fluid, the umbilical cord loops fall out, which can lead to the death of the baby.

If the amniotic fluid is poured out quickly and in large volumes, then the labor process must be completed within the next 12 hours. This period is considered safe for the baby's health. If this period is exceeded, special stimulating drugs are used for the early completion of labor.

If the amniotic fluid is poured out in small portions, then this can last up to three days. But it's still better to go to the hospital right away and not risk your health, and maybe the life of the baby.
