A simple gypsy skirt is sewn like a regular long circle skirt. To sew such a skirt, it is better to take not a plain fabric, but with bright colors so that a simple cut is compensated by a variety of details.
We will need:
- satin, silk or any other opaque fabric;
- pin;
- elastic for belt;
- sewing machine, safety pins;
- iron, chalk or bar of soap.
The size of the main fabric should be 4 times the length of the skirt. And the length of the frill is 2 times longer than the hem of the finished product.
Pattern for a gypsy skirt
- Take measurements: hips, waist and skirt length.
- Using measurements, you need to create a pattern - two semicircles. It is more convenient if it is on paper in full size. You can use old newspapers.
- You can take the pattern as a basis such a circle skirt, just making it longer.
- Using chalk, transfer the pattern onto the fabric and pin it with safety pins.
- We cut out two panels of the skirt from the fabric, adding 2 cm seam allowances.
- With both skirt pieces facing each other, sew the side seams using a sewing machine.

- Sew the side seams of the frill from the inside out.
- Gather it and sew it to the hem of your skirt.
- Fold the top of the skirt inward and sew, leaving a small hole.
- Using a pin, insert the elastic into the waistband.
- Iron all seams carefully.
