How to make a Hawaiian skirt with your own hands
Even if you have not yet managed to visit real Hawaii, you know for sure that these islands cannot be imagined without incendiary music, unprecedented fruits and exotic costumes... And you started learning Hawaiian dances a month before the upcoming party!
The traditional Hawaiian hula dance cannot be danced without a special costume: skirts made of raffia palm fibers, a short top and a bright flower in your hair.
But if you can find a top and a flower in your apartment, then such a skirt is unlikely to be lying around in your grandmother's chest. But it is very easy to make it yourself from the materials at hand. So simple that having made one, you yourself will not notice how make them for your whole company! By the way, in Hawaii, the hula skirt is not only a wardrobe item!
First you need to decide what your skirt will be: it can be Christmas tree tinsel or rain, artificial leaves, satin ribbons, fabric, tape from old audio cassettes, paper or even bags.
Choose a skirt length. A short skirt is more suitable for a children's party, and a long, more feminine one for an adult.
You will also need a wide elastic band for the belt and what you will use to hold the materials together: a needle and thread, glue or a stapler. Although you can do without them by making a Hawaiian skirt according to the principle of "American" or Tutu skirt.
How to make a Hawaiian skirt from bags
We need:
- scissors;
- bright plastic bags;
- elastic for a belt;
- a chair with a back.
- Using scissors, cut the bags into thin strips, 1 cm wide and equal to twice the length of the future skirt. The more stripes you get, the more magnificent and colorful the skirt will be.
- Tie the ends of the elastic in a neat knot to fit your waist.
- Slip the elastic over the back of your chair.
- Slide each strap under the elastic and tie an even knot in the middle of the strap to keep the ends the same length. If the ribbons are not long enough, then you can tie them to the elastic with the edge in two or even three rows.
- Continue tying the ribbons until they are all over the elastic.
- Drape a cloth around the waistband to allow the skin to breathe freely in the polyethylene skirt.
All that remains is to choose a short top, make a bright necklace to match the color of the suit and learn the hula dance moves! Wearing a skirt like this will make you the star of the Hawaiian Islands!
