How to sew a simple summer skirt
We need
- Centimeter. We advise you to take measurements before going to the store for fabric in order to know exactly how much material is required: waist circumference, hip circumference at the most prominent points and skirt length. Do not forget to take into account the 1-2 cm seam allowances and the waist allowance - this is the width of the elastic + 2 cm for the hem.
- Skirt fabric. The thinner it is, the more feminine the finished product will be.
- Matching lining. But if the main fabric is dense enough, then you can do without it. The width of the lining is the volume of the hips + 10 cm, determine the length yourself.
- Elastic for a belt. The wider the better, especially if the underlying fabric is heavy.
- A piece of soap or chalk.
- Sewing machine, iron.
- Needle and thread, pin.
So, all the materials have been prepared, we are starting to create the skirt itself.
How to sew a long summer skirt
First you need to decide on the length of the future skirts.
- Fold the fabric in half draw a small rectangle... Its width will be equal to the girth of the hips, and the height to the length of the product.
- Cut out the resulting parts, they should turn out to be 2.
- Sew the fabric along the length of the side seam. It is important here to be careful not to confuse the length with the width, so that instead of a maxi skirt you do not get a fluffy midi. We iron the seam well with an iron.
- We fold the upper part of the skirt to the width of our elastic band + 2 cm of the hem. We sketch out the seam a bit by hand to make sure we did everything right and the elastic runs freely. We will sew a seam on a typewriter, leaving a small hole to insert the elastic.
- With the help of a pin, we stretch the elastic band inside the belt. We put the ends of the elastic on each other and sew - if you tie them, the knot will stick out and spoil the look of our long skirt.
- Distribute the elastic evenly inside the belt, try on the product. We decide on the final length of our skirt. Fold in the bottom and make the last seam! It is best not to leave a lot of fabric on the hem, especially if it is lightweight.
- We make a petticoat from the lining fabric according to the same principle, excluding the belt, so that the skirt, especially if it is long and made of thin fabric, does not shine through and in the summer you can feel comfortable in it. Here you can give free rein to your imagination: make the lining short, above the knee, or, conversely, long - leaving a playful cut on the side. We sew it to the skirt from the inside out. Carefully iron all the seams with an iron.
