How to sew an American skirt step by step
The American skirt is different from lush tutu skirts with numerous tiers, ruffles and frills. It is unclear what is the reason for the retail price of such skirts, given its low cost and the absence of difficulties in manufacturing.
You will need:
- tulle or grid;
- thick fabric for the belt (yoke);
- needle and thread, scissors;
- sewing machine;
- centimeter;
- elastic for a belt, pin;
- satin ribbon.
For an American skirt, even no pattern needed.
- Measure your length and waist.
- Cut a rectangle out of thick fabric with a length of 2 waist, a height of 20 cm. This is a yoke.
- Cut a rectangle out of tulle, 11 cm high and 9 waist measurements long. This is the first tier.
- Create a second tier from tulle, 12 waist measurements long, 11 cm high.
- Cut the ruffles from the remnants of the fabric: cut into long strips 7 cm wide.
- Sew in a wide step exactly in the middle of the strip by hand or with a typewriter and pull together until ruffling. Connect the stripes until you get a ruff equal to the length of the rectangle.
- Sew it to the rectangle from the front side, stepping back from the edge 1-2 cm.
- Do the same with the second rectangle.
- Sew the side seam of the yoke rectangle. Fold the edges inward, leaving room for the elastic pin.
- Sew the first tulle tier in the middle of the yoke, pulling it together strongly and evenly.
- Sew the second tier to the bottom edge of the yoke.
- From the inside out, connect the edges of the yoke between the tiers.
- Insert the elastic into the belt.
- Tie a ribbon bow and sew to the waistband of your skirt, trimming the edges with hot scissors or a match.
How to sew a single-tiered American skirt
If the skirt should be very small, then you can do with one tier so that the girl does not "drown" in ruffles. To do this, simply follow the same steps, excluding 11 and 12.
