How to sew a pleated skirt
The simplicity of tailoring lies in the fact that handicraft shops offer customers a wide selection of pleated fabrics ready for cutting. That is, there is no need to strain about the folds, it is enough to choose the color you like.
Optionally, you can choose the fabric in a small fold, or a large one.
How to sew a pleated skirt
So, to work you will need:
- pleated fabric - length equal to the length of the skirt (width 150 cm) + 3 cm for hemming the top and bottom;
- threads to match the fabric;
- elastic band 5 cm wide and long equal to the waist circumference + 2 cm;
- sewing machine.
- Spread the fabric out on a flat surface, folding the fabric in half, right side in.
- Draw a rectangle with a crayon. The length of the product will go along the share thread (+ 3 cm for hemming / processing), and half of the hip circumference along the transverse thread (+ 4 cm for freedom of fitting). The width can be adjusted independently, depending on what kind of splendor the skirt you want.
- Cut out the resulting rectangle.
- Work the fabric around the entire perimeter on the overlock.
- Sew the future skirt along a single side seam. You should get a "pipe".
- Take an elastic band and sew it, closing it in a single circle.
- Using tailor's needles, fix the elastic belt at the top of the skirt.
- Using a special sewing needle (superstretch), sew the elastic on the machine, setting the zigzag stitch.
Overlock processing is not always required. It all depends on what kind of fabric you have chosen. If the latter strongly "crumbles" (threads creep along the edges) then it is better to overlay the skirt so that the skirt does not "crumble". But if each thread "sits" in its place, you don't have to worry and make the usual assembly of the product.
That's all, the pleated skirt is ready!
This skirt can be made both straight and flared. In the latter version, you need to make not a simple rectangle, but expand pattern to the bottom. All other operations remain unchanged.
Pleated skirt is popular due to its versatility. It can be worn with almost anything, creating completely different styles... Putting on a delicate top, pastel color and ruffles - you get a romantic airy look. And for embodiment in a rebellious style, a combination of a skirt with a sweater or a leather jacket is suitable. And to create the skirt itself, without resorting to shopping and expensive purchases, as you already understood, is not at all difficult.
