How to sew a year skirt
First you need to decide on the material from which the new thing will be sewn. Perfect for a year skirt:
- atlas;
- silk; wool;
- linen and other skirt fabrics.
The choice mainly depends on where to wear this skirt. So, for everyday wear, you can use durable and versatile linen, and for festive occasions, satin or silk. But remember that linen wrinkles very easily and strongly, but is difficult to iron. Therefore, it is advisable to choose fabrics containing synthetics, which will help the skirt remain in good shape throughout the day.
The average length of a year skirt is 70-75 cm, but you can adjust it yourself by cutting it as you wish.
Godet skirt pattern
To create a pattern for a year skirt, you must first create a pattern for the base of the skirt. You can read about how to do this in an article written earlier. And then you need to do simple modeling according to the following scheme.
Place approximately 25 cm down from the hip line and draw a horizontal line.
Divide both halves, both front and back, in half, as can be clearly seen in the diagram, and draw lines.
The darts should be shifted to the newly emerged lines. You will get wedges (two pieces on each half, 4 in total).
The bottom of each wedge should be expanded, putting 15-20 cm on each side (visible in the diagram). In this case, the bottom of the wedges should be slightly rounded.
The end result should be “slices” like this.
How to quickly sew a skirt
Cut out the pieces on the fabric in the following quantities:
- No. 1 - 2 units;
- No. 2 - 2 units;
- No. 3 - 2 units;
- No. 4 - 2 units.
Don't forget the belt. This will be a piece equal to the length of the waist line, which was lined up according to the pattern + about 3 cm for the hem for the fastener, and 7 cm in width, since in the hem it will become 3.5 cm.
Add 1.5 cm to each piece on all sides for allowances.
Now for the assembly, which won't take much time.
- Baste by hand and then sew on a machine, all the wedges together along the longitudinal sections. But leave the last one untouched.
- Carefully process all seam allowances using an overlocker.
- Sew a hidden lock between the outer wedges.
- Fold the hem of the skirt and sew. This can be done by hand, with a blind stitch, or by machine.
- Sew a belt to the top of the skirt. At the very end, sew a button to the belt and make a hole suitable for it.
