Where do ants come from in the house?
Most often, human housing attracts black and red ants; sometimes yellow ants can also settle in a house. These insects are attracted to warm housing with high humidity. In apartments, the favorite places for ants to live are behind baseboards, containers with cereals, under the sink on kitchen or in bathroom.
There may be several reasons for the appearance of insects in the house:
- Rare general cleaning and lack of disinfestation of places where garbage accumulates.
- Ants can crawl in from neighbors if their apartment is not clean enough or they have started poisoning insects.
- Pests enter the house on people's clothes or fur pets after a walk.
It is very difficult to remove house ants. These insects are incredibly tenacious, adapt well to different living conditions and are excellent at finding sources of food.
How to get rid of ants in the house
First you need to clean the house and eliminate insects' access to food. They are attracted to everything sweet, crumbs of dried food on the floor and sticky marks.
One of the easiest ways to get rid of annoying insects is to use some kind of chemical. It's both simple and effective. Among the effective means against ants, sprays are especially effective. They need to be sprayed where insects appear. You must first ensure that the toxic substance does not get on your food. This method will be especially effective if it is known where the main colony of insects is located. Then you can fix the problem in one fell swoop. Examples of effective sprays include Raptor aerosol, Combat spray or Raid aerosol.
Another good way to eliminate an enemy is to purchase a quality trap. Inside this small device is bait with poison. Climbing inside the trap, worker ants collect poison and transfer it to their queen. Both the queen and the working ants die from this. Raid, Raptor, Combat or Globol brand traps work well. Install them on ant trails, next to ventilation, near a trash can, near the refrigerator, in the corners of baseboards.
Special insecticidal pencils and gels work quite effectively. It is necessary to coat with them the places where the ants follow, as well as the space next to the baseboards and walls. After this, insects will begin to appear less and less often, and then disappear altogether. Gels Raptor, FAS, Sturm have a good effect.
Folk remedies for ants
Ordinary boric acid is very effective in fighting ants. A packet of this product must be mixed with the yolk of three hard-boiled eggs. You also need to add a little honey or sweet syrup. Small balls are rolled from the resulting mass and placed in places where insects are likely to appear. They eat the sweet poison and die.
Another way is to use yeast. They are diluted with a small amount of water with the addition of honey to form a thick mass. The bait is laid out on ant paths, from where the insects drag it into the anthill. There the yeast begins to ferment and spoil all the food.
If there are few ants in your home, then simple traps with sweets will help. Pour a small amount of sweet water, honey or jam into the bottom of a bottle or jar. The insects will climb into the trap, attracted by the sweet aroma, and will not be able to crawl back out.
Proven remedy for ants in the house
Good and safe for people and pets The way to drive out ants is to use aromatic herbs. Insects are repelled by the smells of wormwood, mint, citrus fruits, and cloves. They also do not like garlic and unrefined vegetable oil. Spray these aromas where uninvited guests gather and they will leave. Herbs and spices can simply be placed in places where they are likely to appear. And spread vegetable oil or garlic on the baseboards and the area next to the trash can. Only the oil must be taken unrefined with a smell.
Pharmaceutical chamomile works well. It can be placed around the house, in places where ants crawl. Make a strong decoction of chamomile and wash the floors with it. Insects cannot stand the smell of chamomile and will leave in a few days.
