Where does the dust come from
Both man and nature are involved in the formation of dust. You can even say that nature is more to blame for this misfortune. Most of the dust is generated from the soil. A huge amount of the smallest soil particles are blown away by the wind and transported over long distances.
In second place are the particles of sea salt. Evaporation from the surface of the ocean, seawater leaves salt crystals in the air, which also move with the air masses.
A lot of dust is generated by forest fires and volcanic eruptions. Particles of such dust can fly tens of thousands of kilometers before settling in an apartment.
In addition to such particles, the dust contains the remains of animal bodies, tissue fibers, plant pollen and fungal spores, and much more. All this regularly moves and penetrates our homes.
Microscopic organisms - dust mites - still live in the dust. They are so small that a million ticks can fit in one square meter. These little parasites feed on dead human skin. They are everywhere in the apartment where there is dust. Usually people do not notice such a neighborhood, but in some, dust mites cause allergies.
How to get rid of dust in an apartment
Do not despair, you can and should fight with dust. Of course, you can't get rid of the dust completely. But there are ways to significantly reduce its amount:
- Remove carpets if you don't have the time or desire to clean them every day.
- Hide in closets or just throw away all the things you don't use on a daily basis.
- Reduce the amount of decor in the decoration of the apartment. All these knickknacks like napkins and figurines collect dust very quickly.
- Replace complex curtains and drapes with simpler and easier to clean curtains. It is very good to use blinds. Remove screens and partitions from fabric or canopies.
- Replace natural flooring and pillow fillings with sustainable synthetic fibers.
In order to prevent dust from accumulating, it is necessary to periodically clean the house according to the following scheme:
- Collect and put in place all unnecessary things... Put them in boxes or use glass display cases for this purpose.
- Vacuum all upholstered furniture well, or cover the upholstery with a damp cloth and dust it out.
- It is convenient to use a steamer to handle curtains. This will do several things at the same time: smooth out the curtains, kill bacteria and dust.
- Remove dust from indoor plants, spray them with water from a spray bottle.
- Pets you need to comb out - it is from their wool that a lot of dust is formed.
- Remove dust from every surface in your home. Don't miss curtain rails and cabinets, baseboards and monitors.
Dust repellent
On the shelves of modern stores and supermarkets, you can find many products designed to combat dust.
They all have a different effect:
- Furniture polishes contain special degreasing agents, antistatic agents and antiseptics. Furniture after processing with such a tool will not be sticky, so dust will slide off its surface.
- Televisions and computer monitors must be treated with a special antistatic agent. This product has an enhanced effect and repels dirt, even with electrified surface.
- Use an intense multi-purpose spray to treat textile surfaces in your apartment. They destroy dust mites, remove static electricity.
- To protect upholstered furniture, you can use a special impregnation. It is sprayed onto furniture and covers it with a protective film. But after treatment with this impregnation, the upholstery will have to be cleaned every six months. Otherwise, the protective film will turn into a dense, dirty coating.
Dust humidifiers
The humidifier itself does not eliminate dust. It only makes the air humid, which is why the dust settles to the surface faster. This reduces the risk of dust settling on our lungs. Humidifier users have noticed that dust does settle very quickly. This effect occurs because the dust is filled with moisture and settles under its own weight. This makes frequent wet cleaning of the room necessary.
It makes sense to use humidifiers during the heating season. At this time, the air in our apartments becomes very dry, which allows viruses and pathogenic bacteria to quickly enter the human body.
