Chernobyl
This city was known to many, and after the terrible events at the end of April 1986, absolutely everyone knew about it. The once thriving city has turned into a ghost town. Now no one lives there, all the buildings are abandoned. It resembles a city that is usually shown in horror films. Despite the fact that the accident happened more than 30 years ago, in some places the level of radiation is still off scale. However, tourists, of course, are not taken to such places.
But the most creepy place is the medical unit. Everyone who suffered that night was taken to it. Of course, even though this place was included in the rating of the most terrible on the planet, in no case should you go down to the basements of the medical unit. Not everyone listens to this and there are stalkers who are smeared with honey there. The consequences of such underground travels will certainly appear, because the level of radiation there is still very high. In the basements of the medical unit, the belongings of irradiated firefighters who died from radiation sickness are still lying around.
36 hours after the incident, all residents of the city were evacuated. However, since the local authorities until the last moment hid the seriousness of the tragedy, many of the evacuees thought they were leaving their homes for just a couple of days, which brings even more horror to the city. It seems that people just disappeared from their homes at once. In children's rooms, toys remain scattered about, newspapers that have not yet been read lie on the tables, textbooks are stacked on desks in schools. In less than a week, an amusement park was supposed to open in Pripyat, but this was not destined to come true and now the Ferris wheel there, which is already rusted, is one of the most recognizable monuments of the ghost town. Moreover, it is this area of the city that is one of the most infected.
In general, now excursions to the infamous area are organized and everything is official, however, it is strongly discouraged to go to the sites on your own. The guide knows in advance where it is safe, and where it is better not to walk, an unknowing person can wander into dangerous areas, which then will suffer and infect his surroundings.
Poveglia
There are many legends and tales around this place. Poveglia is one of the most popular islands located in the northern part Of Italy... The eerie image of the island was formed thanks to the mysterious and bloody history of the place itself. Poveglia consists of two parts, and despite the fact that its distance from the mainland is all five kilometers, no one has come here for many years, and the island has long been abandoned. To understand and feel the energy of the place at a distance, it is worth getting to know a little about the history of this island.
The first information about Poveglia dates back to the fifth century AD, when refugees from Italy lived here. In the 8th century, another stream of refugees poured here. And so for several centuries the island served as a shelter for people. Towards the end of the 14th century, fortresses appeared on the island, which protected it from attacks from the sea. And at the end of the 18th century, this place was transferred to health care, after which a hospital and a church were erected on the island. Since that time, the island has become the abode of people suffering from the plague. Almost every patient has spent his whole life here and rested there. The data says that 160,000 unfortunate people have found their rest on the island.
At the beginning of the nineteenth, by order of Napoleon, the church was destroyed, from which today only a chapel remains, which later became a lighthouse. In 1922, an old and abandoned hospital building was transformed into a psychiatric hospital. There were patients whose diagnosis was the most difficult, and for this reason they could not be kept in ordinary psychiatric hospitals. Since the hospital was not seriously monitored by anyone, the doctors had complete power over the unfortunate, which they used to carry out gruesome procedures. People were scoffed at as much as they could - they made a lobotomy, did not feed them, and beat them. People died not from disease, but from the torment that doctors repaired. Dying patients were buried in mass graves.
According to some reports, the main physician of the institution himself conducted the bulk of the experiments. By the way, he, by the way, ironically, in the end, himself went insane and committed suicide. The hospital became completely abandoned only in 1968. Now Povelje is afraid to visit even for a short time, although there have been attempts to redeem the island and start living on it. At the end of the twentieth century, a family tried to move on it, which could not spend the night normally and overnight. The owners' daughter was found covered in blood and beaten. The victim was given about 14 stitches, but what exactly happened that night, she could not explain, speaking only about spirits, crying women and voices. Naturally, at this time the family's stay on the island came to an end.
There is a "plague field" on the island, where, according to some estimates, more than 50,000 people are buried, the rest were burnt. Even local fishermen try to bypass the place - someone is afraid of infection with the plague, someone does not want to catch human bones from the bottom of the sea, which are clogged in the nets. Such cases have indeed been recorded.
By the way, the island is now being sold for up to 99 years. And according to some reports, a hotel may soon appear on it, where tourists can rest. It is interesting how many people will be willing to visit Povelj.
The gates of hell in Turkmenistan
The gates of hell, or Darvaza, are not at all a creation of nature, but the work of man. This place is located in the very heart of the Karakum in Turkmenistan. The dimensions of this crater are 20 meters deep and 60 meters in diameter. The history of this "burning pit" begins in 1971, when geologists conducted research in this area. During the drilling of the well, unexpectedly for the participants, the earth collapsed, since the earth was hollow inside. As a result of the collapse, a crater was formed, from the depths of which gas seeped out. In order not to poison the people and animals living in the area, the experts decided to burn the gas. According to their calculations, burning should have lasted no more than two days. But something went wrong and the crater burns to this day.
Then, during the collapse, none of those who were there were not injured. And the crater got its name a little later. Subsequently, this place became the last for many animals and curious people who came too close to the cliff and fell down due to the collapse of the earth. Having fallen there, it will be impossible to get out, and the unfortunate person remains to suffer from the slow burning. Even being a few steps from the crater, you can feel the heat emanating from it. Sometimes the height of the pillar of combustion can reach 15 meters.
Afar basin
The Afar Basin is located in the eastern part of Africa. It is dangerous to be here even because at any moment the earth, in the literal sense of the word, can slip out from under your feet. The Afar Basin is one of only two places on the globe where the mid-ocean ridge comes out onto land. Yes, the normal location of such ridges, as the name implies, is the ocean, but, as it is now clear, there are exceptions. Powerful geological activity always takes place near such places. Just imagine, in 2005 about 165 earthquakes with an amplitude of 3.9 points were recorded in this place. Earthquakes almost constantly occur there, but on a smaller scale. According to experts, this behavior of nature is likely to lead to the fact that the Somali peninsula will simply separate from the continent.
In addition, one of the hottest places in the whole earth, the Danakil depression, is located in the Afor Basin. The coldest weather at this point occurs during the rainy season and is about + 25 ° С, and from March to September, when the dry season comes, the air temperature is stable at around + 48 ° С.
Aokigahara
This terrible place is notorious throughout the world. It is located in Japan, at the foot of Mount Fuji. However, people come here not to admire the beauty of the local flora, but to say goodbye to their lives. Yes, yes, it is for this, to commit suicide. This forest is truly one of the creepiest on earth. It's just strewn with human bones. Walking through these places, you can most likely stumble upon lifeless human bodies hanging in the trees, and this is a normal phenomenon here.
The rise of suicide began in 93 of the twentieth century, after the book The Complete Guide to Suicide was published. There were described a variety of options for how you can get out of life. Interestingly, the book became a bestseller and sold over 1.2 million copies in a short time. In the pages of the book, this place has been described as "perfect to die." This book was found next to several corpses.
This state of affairs could not but disturb the local authorities, and the latter formed a special police department, which removes the corpses from the scene and patrols the area. However, this does not help save lives. There are no drugs on sale near the forest that would cause death. But such a measure, even with a stretch, cannot be called effective, because nothing prevents people from bringing them with them. Sellers of local shops can identify by eye those who came not as a tourist, but with the aim of committing suicide. Having noticed this, they, of course, call the police and thereby managed to save not a single life. However, unfortunately, everyone cannot be saved. Even the signs at the entrance do not help the unfortunate. In addition to the text, they also contain telephone numbers for psychological assistance. To understand how awful this place is, one has only to imagine that every three days one person is killed there.
Excursions are regularly held in this forest, but it is highly discouraged to go there alone. The fact is that the terrain near the forest is very monotonous and, having entered it, it is almost impossible to find a way back to an unknowing person. By the way, cases of such ridiculous deaths were recorded, when people simply got lost and died of hunger.
Manchak Swamp
Swamps are always a source of danger for people, but there are those that you do not want to approach at all. One of these is the Manchak Swamp, located in Louisiana (USA). The very appearance of the fauna makes you feel like a hero of a real horror movie, especially in the evening and at night. Locals can tell a legend according to which the evil queen Voodoo was held captive in this place, which later put a curse on this swamp. And when it was burned down, terrible things began to happen here. From time to time you can hear incomprehensible screams and howls. Even birds don't fly there.
The swamp has another name - the swamp of ghosts. There was a case when people tried to drain the swamp and remove all the trees, but that was not the case. A terrible hurricane arose on the spot, which razed three villages in the area to the ground. Then the flooding of local cemeteries and people and animals happened. Sometimes corpses of people float up there, so it is not surprising that while walking there you can stumble upon a ghost. But whoever lives there well is alligators, of whom there is a dime a dozen.
But despite all the horror of what is happening, there are fans to tickle their nerves. The place regularly attracts desperate tourists who like to go on a local boat trip at night. Someone feeds the crocodiles that swim nearby. However, if someone suddenly falls out of the boat, there is practically no chance of getting out of there alive. Some tourists have confirmed that they did encounter ghosts while there, but whether this is true is unclear.
Cane Hill Hospital
This is the former building of an insane asylum located in London. The institution was in working order until 1991, after which all patients left this place. Some of the "guests" were transferred to a safer place, the fate of others is unknown. This place is very eerie - a lot of things remained in the hospital, the devices are as before, and other instruments have remained intact. The energy of this place, to put it mildly, is not the best ...
Capuchin catacombs
This most that neither is the museum of the dead is located in Italy. At first it may seem that all this is not real, that these are wax dolls or something similar, but no. These are indeed the remains of once living people. The open burial includes more than 8,000 people and each of them once belonged to the local elite and was an outstanding citizen. Before burial, the bodies were indulged in a certain rite, soaked in special solutions, and only then were they paraded. This lasted exactly until 1837, after which such types of burial were illegal, but some managed to get around the prohibitions. For example, burial in a coffin, in which a window was made through which relatives could observe the deceased.
Of all the abundance of human remains, Rosalia Lombardo, who was nicknamed the Sleeping Beauty, became the most popular. She was buried in 1920, but despite this, more than 90 years later, her body is perfectly preserved. If you look at her, it seems that she did not die at all, but simply sleeps peacefully in her little coffin.
Visiting this place simply freezes the blood in your veins, walking on it is creepy and scary, just from the mere realization that these are real people, and not at all artificial copies.
